Reduced expression of gene in cortex glia causes dopaminergic cell death
Background Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons. While abnormal protein aggregation has been classically implicated in PD, increasing evidence suggests that lipid ...

Accumbal Dopamine Release Tracks the Expectation of Dopamine Neuron-Mediated Reinforcement
Summary: Dopamine (DA) transmission in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) facilitates cue-reward associations and appetitive action. Reward-related accumbal DA release dynamics are traditionally ascribed to ventral tegmental area (VTA) DA neurons. Activation of

Magnetomechanical neuromodulation using magnetic nanodiscs enables remote activation of neurons. In a hemiparkinsonian mouse model, alternating magnetic fields actuate the nanodiscs to generate torque that opens mechanosensitive ion channels within the subthalamic nucleus, thereby modulating basal ganglia motor circuitry.

Dopaminergic, glutamatergic but not opioidergic mechanisms mediate induction of FOS-like protein by cocaethylene [PDF]
Cocaethylene is a psychoactive metabolite formed\ud during the combined consumption of cocaine and ethanol. As\ud this metabolite has many properties in common with cocaine, it is conceivable that cocaethylene administration may induce the activity of ...

Necrostatin-1 protection of dopaminergic neurons
Necroptosis is characterized by programmed necrotic cell death and autophagic activation and might be involved in the death process of dopaminergic neurons in Parkinson's disease. We hypothesized that necrostatin-1 could block necroptosis and give protection to dopaminergic neurons.

Sono‐Mechanogenetics: Linking Ultrasound Physics With Cellular Mechanobiology
Sono‐mechanogenetics links ultrasound physics with cellular mechanotransduction to enable noninvasive control of engineered biological systems. Acoustic forces generate distinct deformation modes that activate intracellular signaling pathways, which can be coupled to synthetic gene circuits to regulate diverse cellular functions, including gene ...

The Effects of Neurosteroids, such as Pregnenolone Sulfate and its receptor, TrpM3 in the Retina. [PDF]
Pregnenolone sulfate (PregS) is the precursor to all steroid hormones and is produced in neurons in an activity dependent manner. Studies have shown that PregS production is upregulated during certain critical periods of development, such as in the first
