Organ Abnormalities Caused by Turner Syndrome

open access: yesCells, 2023
Turner syndrome (TS), a genetic disorder due to incomplete dosage compensation of X-linked genes, affects multiple organ systems, leading to hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, short stature, cardiovascular and vascular abnormalities, liver disease, renal ...

Evolution under fluctuating environments explains observed robustness in metabolic networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A high level of robustness against gene deletion is observed in many organisms. However, it is still not clear which biochemical features underline this robustness and how these are acquired during evolution.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Autosomal genetic variation is associated with DNA methylation in regions variably escaping X-chromosome inactivation

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
DNA methylation is critically involved in X chromosome inactivation (XCI) and dosage compensation, yet some X-chromosomal genes escape XCI. Here, Lujik et al.

Chromosomal control of wheat endosperm proteins. A critical review. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
Progress made in the chromosomal location of structural genes for wheat endosperm proteins, and in the study of the regulation and quantitative expression of these genes, by using aneuploids and by related techniques, is critically evaluated ...

Conserved microRNA targeting reveals preexisting gene dosage sensitivities that shaped amniote sex chromosome evolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Mammalian X and Y Chromosomes evolved from an ordinary autosomal pair. Genetic decay of the Y led to X Chromosome inactivation (XCI) in females, but some Y-linked genes were retained during the course of sex chromosome evolution, and many X-linked genes ...

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Ubiquitylation of the acetyltransferase MOF in Drosophila melanogaster.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
The nuclear acetyltransferase MOF (KAT8 in mammals) is a subunit of at least two multi-component complexes involved in transcription regulation. In the context of complexes of the 'Non-Specific-Lethal' (NSL) type it controls transcription initiation of ...

Levels of DNA cytosine methylation in the Drosophila genome [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2018
Insects provide an accessible system to study the contribution of DNA methylation to complex epigenetic phenotypes created to regulate gene expression, chromatin states, imprinting and dosage compensation.

\u3cem\u3eAnolis\u3c/em\u3e Sex Chromosomes Are Derived from A Single Ancestral Pair [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
To explain the frequency and distribution of heteromorphic sex chromosomes in the lizard genus Anolis, we compared the relative roles of sex chromosome conservation versus turnover of sex‐determining mechanisms. We used model‐based comparative methods to
