Integration of single‐cell and bulk RNA‐sequencing data reveals the prognostic potential of epithelial gene markers for prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Prostate cancer is a leading malignancy with significant clinical heterogeneity in men. An 11‐gene signature derived from dysregulated epithelial cell markers effectively predicted biochemical recurrence‐free survival in patients who underwent radical surgery or radiotherapy.

Visual Relationship Detection with Language Priors [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Visual relationships capture a wide variety of interactions between pairs of objects in images (e.g. "man riding bicycle" and "man pushing bicycle"). Consequently, the set of possible relationships is extremely large and it is difficult to obtain sufficient training examples for all possible relationships.

Etoposide‐induced cancer cell death: roles of mitochondrial VDAC1 and calpain, and resistance mechanisms

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The complex mode of action of the topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide in triggering apoptosis involves several mechanisms: overexpression of the mitochondrial protein VDAC1, leading to its oligomerization and formation of a large channel that mediates the release of pro‐apoptotic protein; and overexpression of the apoptosis regulators p53, Bax, and ...

Dissipating with Relations: Implication for the Entity-Relationship Model [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Computer Science and Information Security, Vol. 18, No. 6, June 2020, 2020
Difficulties arise when conceptual modeling lacks ontological clarity and rigorous definitions, which is especially the case in the relationship construct. Evidence shows that use of relationships is often problematic when it comes to communicating the form of meaning of an application domain.

Dose-response relationship between exercise and respiratory disease mortality.

open access: yesMedicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 2014
PURPOSE The objective of this study is to assess prospectively the dose-response relationship between respiratory disease (ICD10: J1-99), pneumonia (ICD10: J12.0-18.9), and aspiration pneumonia mortality (ICD10: J69) versus baseline walking and running ...

Analysis of comprehensive genomic profiling of solid tumors with a novel assay for broad analysis in clinical diagnostics

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In molecular cancer diagnostics, comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) is going to replace the small NGS panels since it provides all clinically relevant somatic variants as well as genomic biomarkers with clinical value. Here, we compared two CGP assays and demonstrate that the choice for diagnostic implementation will depend on the specific ...

Pioglitazone and bladder cancer risk: a systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesCancer Medicine, 2018
Current evidence about the association between pioglitazone and bladder cancer risk remains conflict. We aimed to assess the risk of bladder cancer associated with the use of pioglitazone and identify modifiers that affect the results.

The viscosity-radius relationship from scaling arguments [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
The viscosity-radius relationship for semi-dilute polymer solutions is derived using scaling arguments. The viscosity temperature and the temperature radius relationships are combined using the transitive equality relationship. The viscosity-radius relationship is determined to be .

Alanine Aminotransferase and Risk of the Metabolic Syndrome: A Linear Dose-Response Relationship

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Background Elevated baseline circulating alanine aminotransferase (ALT) level has been demonstrated to be associated with an increased risk of the metabolic syndrome (MetS), but the nature of the dose-response relationship is uncertain.

Molecular and functional profiling unravels targetable vulnerabilities in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We used whole exome and RNA‐sequencing to profile divergent genomic and transcriptomic landscapes of microsatellite stable (MSS) and microsatellite instable (MSI) colorectal cancer. Alterations were classified using a computational score for integrative cancer variant annotation and prioritization.
