Engineered Yarrowia lipolytica inducing gene silencing confers control ability against gray mold in plants

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Engineered the plant‐colonizing yeast Yarrowia lipolytica to produce and deliver double‐stranded RNAs targeting key genes of the gray mold fungus Botrytis cinerea produced a ‘living factory’ that continuously synthesizes and releases gene‐silencing molecules on plant surfaces, effectively suppressing the pathogen.

Reovirus recombination is highly selective, and its profiles are primarily dictated by viral gene segment identity

open access: yesJournal of Virology
Recombination facilitates the generation of defective viral genomes (DVGs), truncated derivatives of the parental genome that require a helper virus to replicate. Recombination mechanisms are poorly understood for viruses with double-stranded RNA (dsRNA)

Stem Cells From Dental Pulp, Periodontal Tissues, and Other Oral Sources: Biological Concepts and Regenerative Potential

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
A graphical abstract recapping the different sources of dental, periodontal, and other oral‐derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) and their regenerative mechanisms and potentials. The review's article findings bridge fundamental biological science with translational advances, highlighting the significance of MSCs in craniofacial regenerative ...

Viruses, Periodontitis, and Systemic Diseases

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This narrative review aimed to summarize current evidence on the viral involvement in periodontitis and its relevance for systemic diseases. The oral cavity acts as an active viral reservoir and dissemination platform, where virus–microbiome interactions may promote dysbiosis, periodontitis progression, and systemic inflammatory effects, while the ...

microRNA‐mediated control of cell fate specification and patterning in Marchantia polymorpha

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
The gemma developmental program in Marchantia polymorpha is coordinated by MpMIR166‐mediated repression of MpC3HDZ and auxin homeostasis. Summary MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non‐coding RNA molecules essential for growth and development in eukaryotes. In plants, the master gene DICER‐LIKE 1 (DCL1) catalyzes the biogenesis of miRNAs by processing double‐

Efficiency of RNAi‐based gene silencing in fungi: a meta‐analysis

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Mechanistic interpretation of RNAi efficiency across fungal lifestyles and delivery strategies based on the present meta‐analysis. Summary RNA interference (RNAi) shows great potential to protect crops against fungal diseases, yet reported protection efficiencies vary greatly, and our understanding of the factors responsible for this variance remains ...

PACT prevents aberrant activation of PKR by endogenous dsRNA without sequestration

open access: yesNature Communications
The innate immune sensor PKR for double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) is critical for antiviral defense, but its aberrant activation by cellular dsRNA is linked to various diseases.

BcMFSR Is Required for Efficient Uptake of Exogenous dsRNA and Spray-Induced Gene Silencing in Botrytis cinerea. [PDF]

open access: yesMol Plant Pathol
Spray‐induced gene silencing (SIGS) uses exogenous dsRNA to silence pathogen genes and control grey mould disease. We identify BcMFSR, an MFS protein required for dsRNA uptake and SIGS efficacy in Botrytis cinerea. Loss of BcMFSR abolishes dsRNA internalization and disease suppression, revealing a novel role for MFS proteins.

Caenorhabditis elegans as an in vivo model system for human inherited primary arrhythmia syndromes

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Most genes involved in inherited primary arrhythmia syndromes (IPAS) are conserved in Caenorhabditis elegans, where genetic manipulation enables functional characterization of variants, identification of regulatory proteins, and in vivo drug testing.
