Blood pressure effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists: Mechanisms, trial evidence and Real‐world data

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists modestly lower blood pressure across diverse patient populations, including those without diabetes. These effects appear largely independent of glycaemic control and offer additive value in high‐risk patients with overlapping comorbidities.

Association of DPP-4 inhibitors with respiratory and cardiovascular complications in patients with COPD: a nationwide cohort study

open access: yesERJ Open Research
Aims COPD is a comorbid condition often associated with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular diseases, but few studies have observed the impact of various antidiabetic drugs in patients with COPD and T2D.

Exposure‐adjusted safety and efficacy of GLP‐I and GLP‐1/GIP receptor agonists compared with non‐GLP‐I for weight management and type 2 diabetes: Based on FDA medical and statistical reports of 34 280 safety and 36 312 efficacy subjects

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims This work aimed to contextualize glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1 RAs) and glucose‐dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor agonists safety and efficacy regarding weight management (WM); we analysed Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Medical Reviews to analyse 14 medications using patient‐exposure year normalization and ...

The impact of DPP-4 inhibitors on long-term survival among diabetic patients after first acute myocardial infarction

open access: yesCardiovascular Diabetology, 2017
Background Previous studies regarding the cardioprotective effects of dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitors have not provided sufficient evidence of a relationship between DPP-4 inhibition and actual cardiovascular outcomes.

Current practice and guideline adherence in renal dose adjustment for patients with chronic kidney disease: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims To quantify prescribing adherence to renal dosing recommendations in adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD; Stage 3 and above) and to evaluate the clinical consequences of non‐adherence. Methods This systematic review and meta‐analysis was conducted in accordance with PRISMA 2020 guidelines and registered in PROSPERO (CRD42025620883).

Effects of switching from dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitors to oral semaglutide on oxidative stress and glycemic variability in patients with type 2 diabetes: an open-label, prospective, randomized, multicenter, parallel-group comparison study

open access: yesDiabetology & Metabolic Syndrome
Background To compare the effects of switching from dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitors to oral semaglutide on oxidative stress and glucose variability assessed by continuous glucose monitoring in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM ...

A dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, linagliptin, attenuates cardiac dysfunction after myocardial infarction independently of DPP-4

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2019
Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors not only improve impaired glucose tolerance in diabetes, but also have pleiotropic extra-pancreatic effects such as preconditioning effect for myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Safety outcomes of antidiabetic medications: A comprehensive review of the EU summaries of product characteristics and international clinical practice guidelines

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims Information on the safety profile of antidiabetic medications is essential for informed treatment decisions in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Although this information is available in regulatory documents of individual drugs, a comprehensive overview across all approved antidiabetics is lacking.
