Interaction between habits as action sequences and goal-directed behavior under time pressure

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2023
Human behavior consists in large parts of action sequences that are often repeated in mostly the same way. Through extensive repetition, sequential responses become automatic or habitual, but our environment often confronts us with events to which we ...

On using shadow prices in portfolio optimization with transaction costs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In frictionless markets, utility maximization problems are typically solved either by stochastic control or by martingale methods. Beginning with the seminal paper of Davis and Norman [Math. Oper. Res.

Does mindfulness enhance critical thinking? Evidence for the mediating effects of executive functioning in the relationship between mindfulness and critical thinking

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2016
Mindfulness originated in the Buddhist tradition as a way of cultivating clarity of thought. Despite the fact that this behaviour is best captured using critical thinking assessments, no studies have examined the effects of mindfulness on critical ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

An approach to anomalies in M-theory via KSpin

open access: yes, 2007
The M-theory fieldstrength and its dual, given by the integral lift of the left hand side of the equation of motion, both satisfy certain cohomological properties.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

The Dual Process Theory of Autism: A Narrative Review

open access: yesPsikiyatride Güncel Yaklaşımlar
The Dual Process Theory in Autism is a contemporary approach used to explain the cognitive processing styles of autistic individuals. The theory proposes that individuals rely on two distinct modes of processing: intuitive (Type I; fast and automatic ...

F-theory fluxes, Chirality and Chern-Simons theories

open access: yes, 2012
We study the charged chiral matter spectrum of four-dimensional F-theory compactifications on elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau fourfolds by using the dual M-theory description.

Relaxation in Conformal Field Theory, Hawking-Page Transition, and Quasinormal/Normal Modes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We study the process of relaxation back to thermal equilibrium in $(1+1)$-dimensional conformal field theory at finite temperature. When the size of the system is much larger than the inverse temperature, perturbations decay exponentially with time.
