A dual-specificity phosphatase MKP1 negatively regulates the activity of MPK6 by dephosphorylating it and acts as a positive regulator of blue light (BL)-mediated photomorphogenic development in Arabidopsis. Reversible phosphorylation of proteins is one of the major post-translational modifications in nearly all signaling pathways in plants. MAP kinase

Dual-specificity phosphatase 1: a critical regulator of innate immune responses
Biochemical Society Transactions, 2006Innate immune responses are critically dependent on MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase) signalling pathways, in particular JNK (c-Jun N-terminal kinase) and p38 MAPK. Both of these kinases are negatively regulated via their dephosphorylation by DUSP1 (dual-specificity phosphatase 1).

AbstractHuman JNK stimulatory phosphatase‐1 (JSP‐1) is a novel member of dual specificity phosphatases. A C‐terminus truncated JSP‐1 was expressed in Escherichia coli and was crystallized using the sitting‐drop vapor diffusion method. Thin‐plate crystals obtained at 278 K belong to a monoclinic space group, C2, with unit‐cell parameters a = 84.0 Å, b =

Dual-specificity phosphatase 18 modulates the SUMOylation and aggregation of Ataxin-1
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2018We previously reported that SUMOylation promotes the aggregation of ataxin-1 and JNK is involved in the process. Here we show that dual-specificity phosphatase 18 (DUSP18), a member of protein tyrosine phosphatases, exerts the opposite effects on ataxin-1. DUSP18 associated with ataxin-1 and suppressed JNK activated by ataxin-1.

The PAC-1 dual specificity phosphatase predicts poor outcome in serous ovarian carcinoma
Gynecologic Oncology, 2004Data regarding signal transduction pathways in human tumors are largely confined to cell line studies to date. We have recently reported on the activation and prognostic role of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) in ovarian carcinoma in effusions.

Positive regulation of apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1 by dual-specificity phosphatase 13A
Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2010Apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1 (ASK1), a member of the MAP kinase kinase kinase, is activated by several death stimuli and is tightly regulated by several mechanisms such as interactions with regulatory proteins and post-translational modifications.

NSC-87877, inhibitor of SHP-1/2 PTPs, inhibits dual-specificity phosphatase 26 (DUSP26)
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2009Protein phosphorylation plays critical roles in many regulatory mechanisms controlling cell activities and thus involved in various diseases. The cellular equilibrium of phosphorylation is regulated through the actions of protein kinases and phosphatases. Therefore, these regulatory proteins have emerged as promising targets for drug development.

Gastroenterology, 2003
In both pancreatic cancer and chronic pancreatitis, there is enhanced expression of mitogenic growth factors and their tyrosine kinase receptors, which have the capacity to activate mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK). In view of the important role of MAPK kinase phosphatase (MKP)-1 in the regulation of MAPK activation, the expression and ...
