Arc Fault Protection of the High-Current Busbar Assembly of an Ore Furnace

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
The design features of high-power ore furnaces are the transformer’s secondary winding made of 4–8 isolated splits and a busbar assembly made of the same number of paired bifilar bus tubes, spaced 20–40 mm apart.

The formation of the extremely primitive star SDSS J102915+172927 relies on dust

open access: yes, 2012
The relative importance of metals and dust grains in the formation of the first low-mass stars has been a subject of debate. The recently discovered Galactic halo star SDSS J102915+172927 (Caffau et al.

Dust formation, evolution, and obscuration effects in the very high-redshift universe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The evolution of dust at redshifts z>9, and consequently the dust properties, differs greatly from that in the local universe. In contrast to the local universe, core collapse supernovae (CCSNe) are the only source of thermally-condensed dust. Because of

Restructuring and destruction of hydrocarbon dust in the interstellar medium [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy Reports, 2016
A model of key processes influencing the evolution of a hydrocarbon grain of an arbitrary size under astrophysical conditions corresponding to ionized hydrogen regions (HII regions) and supernova remnants is presented. The considered processes include aromatization and photodestruction, sputtering by electrons and ions, and shattering due to collisions

Shaping the dust mass - star-formation rate relation

open access: yes, 2014
There is a remarkably tight relation between the observationally inferred dust masses and star-formation rates (SFRs) of SDSS galaxies, Mdust $\propto$ SFR$^{1.11}$ (Da Cunha et al. 2010).

The Effects of Metallicity and AGN Activity on the Mid-Infrared Dust Emission of Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Using a sample of the $Spitzer$ SWIRE-field galaxies whose optical spectra are taken from the Data Release 4 of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, we study possible correlations between the Mid-InfraRed (MIR) dust emission from these galaxies and both their ...

Thermo‐Fluorescent Bactericidal Quantum Dots Based Smart Multifunctional Textiles via Molecular Surface Engineering and 3D‐Printed Interlocked Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A versatile approach is presented for fabricating smart multifunctional textiles by integrating thermo‐fluorescent carbon dot/polymer nanocomposite coatings with 3D‐printed interlocked architectures. The fabrics exhibit temperature‐responsive fluorescence, durable hydrophobicity, strong antibacterial and antioxidant activity, and enhanced UV protection.

Observational Evidence of Dust Evolution in Supernova Remnants: Size Redistribution toward Larger Grains in the Early Sedov Phase

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Recent observations have revealed that dust is widespread and abundant in galaxies up to z  ≃ 8, significantly influencing their appearance and spectral properties.

Nanotherapies for Atherosclerosis: Targeting, Catalysis, and Energy Transduction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Atherosclerosis management is hindered by poor drug targeting and plaque heterogeneity. Nanotechnology overcomes these barriers via three core strategies: (1) target‐engineered nanocarriers that achieve lesion‐specific precision via ligand modification, biomimetic camouflage, stimuli‐responsive release, and self‐propelling nanomotors; (2) catalytic ...
