Carbonaceous Chondrites Provide Evidence for Late-stage Planetesimal Formation in a Pressure Bump

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Carbonaceous chondrites are samples from planetesimals that formed 2–4 million years after solar system formation began. They consist of distinct dust components formed at different times and locations in the accretion disk, and whose abundances in ...

Silicon in the dust formation zone of IRC +10216 [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy and Astrophysics, 2010
The interstellar medium is enriched primarily by matter ejected from evolved low and intermediate mass stars. The outflows from these stars create a circumstellar envelope in which a rich gas-phase and dust-nucleation chemistry takes place. We observed the nearest carbon-rich evolved star, IRC +10216, using the PACS (55–210 μm) and SPIRE (194–672 μm ...

The multifaceted roles of lysosomes in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lysosomes support cancer cell adaptation by integrating macromolecule degradation and nutrient recycling with nutrient sensing, inter‐organelle communication and immune regulation. These interconnected functions can promote tumour growth, stress tolerance and therapy resistance, while also creating context‐dependent vulnerabilities that may be ...

Fungal microbiota from rain water and pathogenicity of Fusarium species isolated from atmospheric dust and rainfall dust [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In order to determine the presence of Fusarium spp. in atmospheric dust and rainfall dust, samples were collected during September 2007, and July, August, and October 2008.

Loss of AMBRA1 activates MAPK and angiogenesis signaling pathways in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Loss of AMBRA1 in melanoma cells activates multiple oncogenic pathways associated with tumor progression. Transcriptomic and protein network analyses revealed that AMBRA1 depletion enhances MAPK/ERK signaling, angiogenesis, TGF‐β/EMT signaling, and Wnt/axon guidance pathways.

The effect of dust and gas energetics on the clustered star formation process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
textThe effect of dust/gas heating and cooling is shown to have a significant effect on the process of clustered star formation. Compared to an isothermal simulation, a simulation with a more accurate description of the equation of state produces an ...

Bacillus biofilm formation and niche adaptation shape long-distance transported dust microbial community

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Long-distance microbial transport via dust events is projected to intensify globally. However, survival mechanisms of air- and dust-borne bacteria and their contribution to global processes remain poorly understood.

Treatment with KCL‐286, a first‐in‐class retinoic acid receptor‐β (RARβ) agonist, ameliorates neuronal DNA damage and inflammation in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Repair of neuronal DNA damage in Alzheimer's disease by KCL‐286. (A) Amyloid‐β oligomers and plaques impair neuronal DNA repair pathways, leading to DNA double‐strand breaks and glial activation. (B) KCL‐286 activates RARβ/RXR signalling via retinoic acid response elements (RAREs), associated with increased BRCA1 expression, enhanced DNA repair and ...

The Curious Long-term Photometric and Dust Evolution of Born-again Planetary Nebulae HuBi 1

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We reveal post-VLTP stellar recovery, dust formation, obscuration and evolution of born-again planetary nebula HuBi 1 by combining archival plates, optical photometry, and infrared observations from the 1890s to 2025.

Malformin A1–mediated cytotoxicity in ovarian cancer cells occurs through pyroptosis and autophagy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated the effects of the natural compound Malformin A1 (MA1) on the cytoskeleton that regulates cell proliferation and migration. Disruption of the cytoskeleton can impair these processes and promote cancer cell death. MA1 disrupted cytoskeletal organization, induced DNA damage, inflammation, activated autophagy, and pyroptosis ...
