Neural population dynamics in human motor cortex during movements in people with ALS

open access: yeseLife, 2015
The prevailing view of motor cortex holds that motor cortical neural activity represents muscle or movement parameters. However, recent studies in non-human primates have shown that neural activity does not simply represent muscle or movement parameters;

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

A Mathematical Study of Learning Dynamics

open access: yes, 2021
Data-driven discovery of dynamics, where data is used to learn unknown dynamics, is witnessing a resurgence of interest as data and computational tools have become widespread and increasingly accessible. Advances in machine learning, data science, and neural networks are fueling new data-driven studies and rapidly changing the landscape in almost every

Beam dynamics in NF-FFAG EMMA with dynamical maps

open access: yes, 2010
Copyright @ 2010 by IPAC'10/ACFAThe Non-Scaling Fixed Field Alternating Gradient accelerator EMMA has a compact linear lattice, in which the effects of magnet fringe fields need to be modelled carefully.

Bifurcations in a Nonlinear Dynamical Model between Western Pacific Subtropical High Ridge Line Index and Its Summer Monsoon Impact Factors

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2014
The western Pacific subtropical high (WPSH) is closely related to Asian climate. Previous studies have shown that a precise dynamical model focusing on the interaction between WPSH and other summer monsoon factors has not been developed.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Combined dynamical-deep learning ENSO forecasts

open access: yesNature Communications
Improving the prediction skill of El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is of critical importance for society. Over the past half-century, significant improvements have been made in ENSO prediction.

Use of high-resolution dynamical adaptation in operational suite and research impact studies

open access: yesMeteorologische Zeitschrift, 2004
The article presents a very high-resolution dynamical adaptation of the wind field with the hydrostatic version of the ALADIN model used in the operational suite, including a sensitivity study of a recent case of bura and a MAP IOP 15 case study. Bura is
