Selective E-selectin ligands

Blood, 2013
In this issue of Blood, Sreeramkumar and colleagues report that E-selectin ligand-1 (ESL-1) is a highly selective ligand for E-selectin on hematopoietic progenitors with unexpected important contributions to their trafficking.

A Ligand Binding Assay for E-Selectin

Analytical Biochemistry, 1994
We describe here a cell-free ligand binding assay for E-selectin. The assay involves immobilizing soluble E-selection onto microtiter plates and incubating with 125I-labeled carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) which carries the tetrasaccharide sialyl Lewis x (sLex). The bound CEA is eluted by ethylene glycol bis(beta-aminoethyl ether)-N,N,N',N',-tetraacetic

Neutrophils roll on E-selectin.

The Journal of Immunology, 1993
Abstract Using flow conditions that simulate those in post capillary venules, we have found that neutrophils attach and roll on a substrate bearing purified E-selectin. E-selectin resembles P-selectin (CD62) with regard to the dependence of attachment efficiency on wall shear stress and selectin density.

Potent E-Selectin Antagonists

Helvetica Chimica Acta, 2000
In the search for drugs that could control excessive leukocyte extravasation, we now report on modifications of the already known potent E-selectin antagonist 3 containing a cyclohexyllactic acid residue and a glucal-derived building block. Thus, we describe the synthesis and biological evaluation of a series of derivatives 6 with modified glucal ...

Potential Significance of Circulating E-Selectin

Circulation, 1997
In the accompanying article, Belch and colleagues1 propose a model in which baseline levels of serum E-selectin (CD62E) are predictive of restenosis after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty in patients with peripheral arterial occlusive disease. Their data revealed significantly higher baseline serum E-selectin levels in patients who restenosed ...

Distinct Phenotype of E-Selectin–Deficient Mice

Circulation Research, 1996
Leukocyte capture and rolling are mediated by calcium-dependent lectins expressed on most leukocytes (L-selectin) and the vascular endothelium (P- and E-selectin). To study the role of the selectins during inflammation, we have investigated leukocyte rolling in venules of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α)–treated mouse cremaster muscles in wild-type mice

Kinetics of E-Selectin Expression in Surgical Flaps

Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 1997
During the ischemia/reperfusion phenomenon, adhesion molecules seem to play a critical role in the recruitment of neutrophils to sites of eventual tissue injury. E-selectin is an endothelium-derived molecule that mediates adhesion of neutrophils to activated endothelial cells.

Synthesis of a potential tetrasaccharide ligand for E-selectin

Carbohydrate Research, 2002
A potential tetrasaccharide ligand for E-selectin, (Na(+-)O(3)SO-3)Galbeta-(1-->4)[Fucalpha-(1-->3)]Glcbeta-(1-->6)Gal, an analogue of the ovarian cystadenoma glycoprotein tetrasaccharide fragment, was synthesized in a highly practical way.

CD44 enhances E-selectin-PSGL-1 interaction by binding to distinct sites on E-selectin

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules
Precise roles of E-selectin in inflammatory cascades, particularly concerning its primary ligands PSGL-1 and CD44, remain incompletely understood. Existing observations such as their co-localization, shared E-selectin-triggered signaling pathways, and cooperative contributions to cellular adhesion hint at a potential interplay of the ligands.

E-selectin polymorphism and atherosclerosis: an association study

Human Molecular Genetics, 1994
Adhesion molecules like the members of the selectin family participate in the interaction between leukocytes and the endothelium. They are also involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerotic processes. To contribute to the analysis of the genetic background of atherosclerosis we searched for DNA polymorphisms in the genes encoding adhesion molecules ...
