Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Behavior of p-GaN HEMTs
2020 32nd International Symposium on Power Semiconductor Devices and ICs (ISPSD), 2020This paper shows the electrostatic discharge (ESD) behavior of p-GaN HEMTs. Based on transmission line pulse (TLP) testing, the ESD characteristics (stressed: drain versus source, drain versus gate, gate versus source, drain to substrate) are comprehensively evaluated, and we found the following results: (1) the gate of p-GaN HEMTs is most prone to ...

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection of RF integrated circuits
2012 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems, 2012Electrostatic discharge (ESD) induced failures continue to be a major reliability concern in the semiconductor industry. Such a concern will in fact be intensified as the CMOS technology is scaling toward the 22-nm and beyond. This paper covers the issues and challenges pertinent to the design of electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection solutions of ...

Aircraft Mounted Neural Network Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Location
Materials Science Forum, 2012Abstract. Cloud to ground and cloud to cloud lightning flashes pose a threat to the aircraft body and the electronic systems inside the aircraft. In this paper we present a single unit, as opposed to a three unit, lightning locator mounted on the aircraft that uses the wave-shapes of electromagnetic fields radiated by lightning and electrical activity ...

Spark-less electrostatic discharge (ESD) on display screens
2015 IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), 2015An electrostatic discharge (ESD) to a display screen may lead to sparking into the phone's structure, e.g., via the glue that connects the different glass layers of the touching panel/LCD, or it may just cause surface charging. The latter is the most likely case for a well-designed display, as the insulation design usually prevents any sparking to the ...

Electrostatic discharge (ESD)–Facts and faults–A review
Packaging Technology and Science, 1995AbstractConcepts of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and how to protect electronic products from ESD are thoroughly discussed. The effect of humidity and temperature on ESD sensitivity, the antistatic properties of various packaging materials and the problems of latent failures are described.

Novel voltage triggered electrostatic discharge (ESD) detection circuit
2017 IEEE 24th International Symposium on the Physical and Failure Analysis of Integrated Circuits (IPFA), 2017A novel 2×V DD -tolerant electrostatic discharge (ESD) detection circuit which uses only low-voltage devices is proposed in a 0.18 um CMOS process. Under normal operating conditions, all the devices are free from over-stress voltage threat. Our proposed detection circuit achieves a high triggering efficiency with a much smaller footprint.

Design for Electrostatic-Discharge (ESD) Protection in Telecommunications Products
AT&T Technical Journal, 1990Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can seriously damage electronic devices and affect the operation of the systems that contain them. Today, design for ESD protection has become a critical — and more difficult — consideration because of shrinking device feature sizes, high system operating speeds, factory automation, and the growth of uncontrolled user ...

Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Failures in Thin Film Resistors
International Symposium for Testing and Failure Analysis, 1999Abstract Field failures of nichrome thin-film resistors have been investigated recently for several pieces of spaceflight hardware. These failures have involved resistance shifts ranging from a few percent to complete open circuits.
