Multiphasic Analysis of Embryonic Mortality in Chickens

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1996
Infertility and embryonic mortality are economically important for the commercial broiler industry because they are components of hatchability. Embryonic mortality in chickens is not uniformly distributed over the course of incubation; two phases of embryonic mortality are characteristic of chicken development.

Embryonic mortality and embryo–pathogen interactions

Animal Reproduction Science, 2000
Embryonic mortality (EM) has a substantial impact on the fertility of domestic animals. Most of the embryonic losses occur during the first days after fertilization and during the process of implantation. Causes of EM can be divided into infectious and non-infectious categories.

Embryonic and foetal mortality in buffalo species [PDF]

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2009
The aim of this study was to verify the incidence of late embryonic mortality (between 25 and 45 days post-insemination; LEM) and foetal mortality (between 45 and 70 days postinsemination; FM) in buffaloes synchronized and mated by AI during the transitional period.

Early Embryonic Mortality in Women

Obstetrical & Gynecological Survey, 1982
Measurements of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) have been used to assess early embryo loss in women. Urine samples obtained from a control group of sterilized women with normal ovulatory menstrual cycles enabled a concentration limit of 56 IU/l to be determined so that any nontrophoblastic hCG or other cross-reacting compounds could be accounted for.

Strategies to reduce embryonic mortality in buffalo cows [PDF]

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2007
The aim of the present study was to examine whether treatment with a GnRH agonist, hCG or P4 on Day 25 after AI increased P4 concentrations and reduced the incidence of embryonic mortality (EM) in pregnant buffaloes mated in mid-winter in a Mediterranean environment.

Thyroid status and embryonic mortality in swine

American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1959
Three lots of 10 Palouse gilts each were used to test the effect of altered thyroid activity on embryonic mortality in swine. Two lots received 0.15% thiouracil and 0.0123% thyroprotein, respectively, in a basal ration; the third lot served as the control.
