Emerging Fusarium mycotoxins in organic and conventional pasta collected in Spain

Food and Chemical Toxicology, 2013
One of the main sources of emerging Fusarium mycotoxins in human nutrition is the cereals and cereal products. In this study, an analytical method to determine enniatins A, A1, B and B1 (ENs), beauvericin (BEA) and fusaproliferin (FUS) based on Ultra-Turrax extraction followed by liquid chromatography coupled to triple quadrupole mass spectrometer ...

Expert Study to Select Indicators of the Occurrence of Emerging Mycotoxin Hazards

Risk Analysis, 2010
This article describes a Delphi‐based expert judgment study aimed at the selection of indicators to identify the occurrence of emerging mycotoxin hazards related to Fusarium spp. in wheat supply chains. A panel of 29 experts from 12 European countries followed a holistic approach to evaluate the most important indicators for different chain stages ...

Towards the development of innovative multi-mycotoxin reference materials as promising metrological tool for emerging and regulated mycotoxin analyses

Mycotoxin Research, 2016
The interest in LC-MS/MS multi-mycotoxin methods unveiled an urgent need for multi-mycotoxin reference material. A multi-fusariotoxin, including deoxynivalenol (DON); zearalenone (ZEN); T-2 toxin (T-2); HT-2 toxin (HT-2); enniatin A, A1, B, and B1 (ENNs); and beauvericin (BEA), contaminated wheat flour was obtained by inoculation Fusarium spp. strains.

Nuts and dried fruits: Natural occurrence of emerging Fusarium mycotoxins

Food Control, 2013
Abstract The occurrence of enniatins (ENs) and beauvericin (BEA) in nuts, dried fruits and dates available in Valencia (Spain) was surveyed in this study. To do this, seventy-four samples of nuts, dried fruits and dates were analyzed for the determination of mycotoxin contamination.

Toxicity of the emerging mycotoxins beauvericin and enniatins: A mini-review

Toxicon
Beauvericin and enniatins, emerging mycotoxins produced mainly by Fusarium species, are natural contaminants of cereals and cereal products. These mycotoxins are cyclic hexadepsipeptides with ionophore properties and their toxicity mechanism is related to their ability to transport cations across the cell membrane.

Genotoxic characterization of emerging mycotoxins in vitro

Among the many contaminants affecting human and animal health, mycotoxins (MTX) are of special concern as they naturally contaminate food and feed. MTX cause toxic effects, being of particular interest their potential genotoxicity and/or carcinogenicity due to continuous, lifelong intake, even at low doses.
