Paxillin facilitates timely neurite initiation on soft-substrate environments by interacting with the endocytic machinery. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Neurite initiation is the first step in neuronal development and occurs spontaneously in soft tissue environments. Although the mechanisms regulating the morphology of migratory cells on rigid substrates in cell culture are widely known, how soft ...

Iron‐dependent lysosomal LDL oxidation induces the expression of scavenger receptor A in human THP‐1 monocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In human monocytic cells THP‐1, a limited uptake of native—not oxidized—LDL/VLDL induced expression of scavenger receptor A and cellular adhesion. Induction was inhibited by lysosomotropic (WR‐1065) and lipophilic (BHT) antioxidants and by siRNAs against ferritinophagy.

Clathrin-mediated endocytosis cooperates with bulk endocytosis to generate vesicles

open access: yesiScience, 2022
Summary: Clathrin-mediated endocytosis, the most prominent endocytic mode, is thought to be generated primarily from relatively flat patches of the plasma membrane.

Spatial segregation of BMP/Smad signaling affects osteoblast differentiation in C2C12 cells.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
BackgroundBone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are involved in a plethora of cellular processes in embryonic development and adult tissue homeostasis.

Clathrin- and dynamin-independent endocytosis of FGFR3--implications for signalling. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Endocytosis of tyrosine kinase receptors can influence both the duration and the specificity of the signal emitted. We have investigated the mechanisms of internalization of fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) and compared it to that of FGFR1 ...

Loss of flotillin expression results in weakened desmosomal adhesion and Pemphigus vulgaris-like localisation of desmoglein-3 in human keratinocytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Desmosomes are adhesion plaques that mediate cell-cell adhesion in many tissues, including the epidermis, and generate mechanical resistance to tissues. The extracellular domains of desmosomal cadherin proteins, desmogleins and desmocollins, are required

Vacuolar ATPase depletion contributes to dysregulation of endocytosis in bloodstream forms of Trypanosoma brucei [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
BACKGROUND Vacuolar H-ATPase (V-ATPase) is a highly conserved protein complex which hydrolyzes ATP and pumps protons to acidify vacuolar vesicles.

Endocytosis, Signaling, and Beyond [PDF]

open access: yesCold Spring Harbor Perspectives in Biology, 2014
The endocytic network comprises a vast and intricate system of membrane-delimited cell entry and cargo sorting routes running between biochemically and functionally distinct intracellular compartments. The endocytic network caters to the organization and redistribution of diverse subcellular components, and mediates appropriate shuttling and processing

Matrix: a complex amalgam of structures and functions in tumor microenvironment

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The matrix is a dynamic, intricate three‐dimensional mesh of biomolecules with both structural and functional properties. This review deals with the complexity of this ‘molecular amalgam’ in the tumor microenvironment and highlights its importance in the maintenance and evolution of tumors by describing certain matrix biomolecules, such as ...

Modulation of sleep by trafficking of lipids through the Drosophila blood-brain barrier

open access: yeseLife, 2023
Endocytosis through Drosophila glia is a significant determinant of sleep amount and occurs preferentially during sleep in glia of the blood-brain barrier (BBB).
