Nicking endonucleases [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemistry (Moscow), 2009
Nicking endonucleases are a new type of enzymes. Like restriction endonucleases, they recognize short specific DNA sequence and cleave DNA at a fixed position relatively to the recognition sequence. However, unlike restriction endonucleases, nicking endonucleases cleave only one predetermined DNA strand.

Flap Endonuclease 1 [PDF]

open access: yesAnnual Review of Biochemistry, 2013
First discovered as a structure-specific endonuclease that evolved to cut at the base of single-stranded flaps, flap endonuclease (FEN1) is now recognized as a central component of cellular DNA metabolism. Substrate specificity allows FEN1 to process intermediates of Okazaki fragment maturation, long-patch base excision repair, telomere maintenance ...

Editosome Accessory Factors KREPB9 and KREPB10 in Trypanosoma brucei [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Multiprotein complexes, called editosomes, catalyze the uridine insertion and deletion RNA editing that forms translatable mitochondrial mRNAs in kinetoplastid parasites.

Crystal structures of Lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus endonuclease domain complexed with diketo-acid ligands

open access: yesIUCrJ, 2018
The Arenaviridae family, together with the Bunyaviridae and Orthomyxoviridae families, is one of the three negative-stranded RNA viral families that encode an endonuclease in their genome.

Cluster J Mycobacteriophages: Intron Splicing in Capsid and Tail Genes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Bacteriophages isolated on Mycobacterium smegmatis mc2155 represent many distinct genomes sharing little or no DNA sequence similarity. The genomes are architecturally mosaic and are replete with genes of unknown function.

Molecular variation of Trypanosoma brucei subspecies as revealed by AFLP fingerprinting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Genetic analysis of Trypanosoma spp. depends on the detection of variation between strains. We have used the amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) technique to develop a convenient and reliable method for genetic characterization of Trypanosome ...

Molecular evolution and morphological speciation in North Atlantic brachiopods (Terebratulina spp.) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Morphological and molecular differentiation of western and eastern North Atlantic brachiopods were examined by morphometric analysis of six shell characteristics (<i>n</i>= 144), allozyme electrophoresis at six nuclear gene loci (<i>n ...

Historical Aspects of Restriction Endonucleases as Intelligent Scissors for Genetic Engineering

open access: yesFermentation, 2023
Restriction endonucleases are a component of restriction–modification systems, where the main biological function is to protect bacterial cells from incoming foreign DNA molecules.

tRNA splicing [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Introns interrupt the continuity of many eukaryal genes, and therefore their removal by splicing is a crucial step in gene expression. Interestingly, even within Eukarya there are at least four splicing mechanisms.
