Modeling stochastic Ca$^{2+}$ release from a cluster of IP$_3$-sensitive receptors [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2004
We focused our attention on Ca$^{2+}$ release from the endoplasmic reticulum through a cluster of inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP$_3$) receptor channels. The random opening and closing of these receptors introduce stochastic effects that have been observed experimentally.

Membrane morphologies induced by mixtures of arc-shaped particles with opposite curvature [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Biological membranes are shaped by various proteins that either generate inward or outward membrane curvature. In this article, we investigate the membrane morphologies induced by mixtures of arc-shaped particles with coarse-grained modeling and simulations.

The endoplasmic reticulum: structure, function and response to cellular signaling

open access: yesCellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2015
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a large, dynamic structure that serves many roles in the cell including calcium storage, protein synthesis and lipid metabolism.

Digitonin‐Loaded Nanoscale Metal–Organic Framework for Mitochondria‐Targeted Radiotherapy‐Radiodynamic Therapy and Disulfidptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A mitochondria‐targeted cationic nanoscale metal organic framework shows strong radiotherapy‐radiodynamic therapy effects and selectively releases digitonin in acidic tumor microenvironments to induce disulfidptosis of cancer cells and downregulate immune checkpoints in cancer and T cells, thereby eliciting strong antitumor immunity to effectively ...

Exosomes derived from microglia overexpressing miR-124-3p alleviate neuronal endoplasmic reticulum stress damage after repetitive mild traumatic brain injury

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research
[INLINE:1] We previously reported that miR-124-3p is markedly upregulated in microglia-derived exosomes following repetitive mild traumatic brain injury.

Mapping Complex Networks: Exploring Boolean Modeling of Signal Transduction Pathways [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
In this study, we explored the utility of a descriptive and predictive bionetwork model for phospholipase C-coupled calcium signaling pathways, built with non-kinetic experimental information. Boolean models generated from these data yield oscillatory activity patterns for both the endoplasmic reticulum resident inositol-1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor ...

Autophagic degradation of the endoplasmic reticulum

open access: yesProceedings of the Japan Academy, Series B, 2020
Autophagy is an intracellular degradation system that is present in most eukaryotes. In the process of autophagy, double membrane vesicles called autophagosomes sequester a wide variety of cellular constituents and deliver them to lytic organelles: lysosomes in mammals and vacuoles in yeast and plants.

Progress and Application of Multifunctional Hydrogel in Radioactive Skin Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This review examines healing challenges in radiation‐wound injuries, where ionizing radiation impairs immune and tissue repair processes. Hydrogels, with their biocompatibility, antimicrobial properties, and drug delivery capabilities, present a transformative solution. It compares hydrogel efficacy in radiation‐induced versus common wounds, highlights

Finite Volume Model to Study the Effect of ER flux on Cytosolic Calcium Distribution in Astrocytes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Computing, Volume 3, Issue 11, 2011, 74-80, 2012
Most of the intra-cellular events involved in the initiation and propagation phases of this process has now been identified astrocytes. The control of the spread of intracellular calcium signaling has been demonstrated to occur at several levels including IP3 receptors, intracellular Ca2+ stores like endoplasmic reticulum (ER) .

Stress signaling from the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum: coordination of gene transcriptional and translational controls.

open access: yesGenes & Development, 1999
All eukaryotic cells have an extensive membranous labyrinth network of branching tubules and flattened sacs called the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Approximately one-third of all cellular proteins are translocated into the lumen of the ER where post ...
