Endothelial dysfunction: molecular mechanisms and clinical implications

open access: yesMedComm
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its complications are a leading cause of death worldwide. Endothelial dysfunction plays a crucial role in the initiation and progression of CVD, serving as a pivotal factor in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular, metabolic,

An Endothelial Cell Is Not Simply an Endothelial Cell

open access: yesStem Cells and Development
Endothelial cells (ECs) are a multifaceted component of the vascular system with roles in immunity, maintaining tissue fluid balance, and vascular tone. Dysregulation or dysfunction of ECs can have far-reaching implications, leading pathologies ranging from cardiovascular diseases, such as hypertension and atherosclerosis, ischemia, chronic kidney ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

CircCDC42-encoded CDC42-165aa regulates macrophage pyroptosis in Klebsiella pneumoniae infection through Pyrin inflammasome activation

open access: yesNature Communications
The circular RNA (circRNA) family is a group of endogenous non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) that have critical functions in multiple physiological and pathological processes, including inflammation, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases.

Emerging insights into the pathogenesis and therapeutic strategies for vascular endothelial injury-associated diseases: focus on mitochondrial dysfunction

open access: yesAngiogenesis
As a vital component of blood vessels, endothelial cells play a key role in maintaining overall physiological function by residing between circulating blood and semi-solid tissue. Various stress stimuli can induce endothelial injury, leading to the onset

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Loss of endothelial ZEB2 in mice attenuates steatosis early during metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease

open access: yesScientific Reports
Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), formerly known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, features liver sinusoidal endothelial cell (LSEC) alterations with ill-defined driving factors. Zinc-Finger E-Box-binding Homeobox (ZEB)

Choroidal Neovascularization: Mechanisms of Endothelial Dysfunction

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2019
Many conditions affecting the heart, brain, and even the eyes have their origins in blood vessel pathology, underscoring the role of vascular regulation.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Analysis of Circulating Microvesicles Levels and Effects of Associated Factors in Elderly Patients With Obstructive Sleep Apnea

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2021
Background: The incidence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in the elderly is high, and the disorder is associated with a variety of chronic diseases. Microvesicles (MVs) are extracellular vesicles secreted by various cells during stimulation or apoptosis
