Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Step-wise CAG@PLys@PDA-Cu2+ modification on micropatterned nanofibers for programmed endothelial healing

open access: yesBioactive Materials, 2023
Native-like endothelium regeneration is a prerequisite for material-guided small-diameter vascular regeneration. In this study, a novel strategy is proposed to achieve phase-adjusted endothelial healing by step-wise modification of parallel-microgroove ...

Platelets and galectins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A major function of platelets is keeping the vascular system intact. Platelet activation at sites of vascular injury leads to the formation of a hemostatic plug.

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Age-Related Disappearance of the Inhibitory Effect of Vascular Endothelium on Agonist-Induced Vasoconstriction in Rat Mesenteric Vascular Beds

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2009
We previously reported that endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF)– mediated response time-dependently suppressed methoxamine-induced vasoconstriction in mesenteric vascular beds isolated from 8-week-old rats.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Vascular Endothelial Cell Biology: An Update

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2019
The vascular endothelium, a monolayer of endothelial cells (EC), constitutes the inner cellular lining of arteries, veins and capillaries and therefore is in direct contact with the components and cells of blood.

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Vascular Endothelium in Neonatal Sepsis: Basic Mechanisms and Translational Opportunities

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2019
Neonatal sepsis remains a major health issue worldwide, especially for low-birth weight and premature infants, with a high risk of death and devastating sequelae.
