Meta‐analysis of high‐intensity interval training and alternative modalities for enhancing aerobic and anaerobic endurance in young athletes

open access: yesPhysiological Reports
This meta‐analysis examined whether HIIT outperforms low‐intensity endurance training (LIET), generic training (GT), or sport‐specific drills (SSD) in improving aerobic and anaerobic endurance in youth athletes.

The C‐terminal region of KIF26B is indispensable for nephron progenitor condensation and kidney formation in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KIF26B plays an important role in kidney development. We engineered mice lacking the C‐terminal region of KIF26B and found severe kidney defects, including bilateral renal agenesis, similar to full Kif26b knockout mice. The mutation disrupted nephron progenitor condensation and reduced Gdnf‐Wnt11 signaling, showing that the KIF26B C‐terminal region is ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Does Maximal Strength Training Improve Endurance Performance in Highly Trained Cyclists: A Systematic Review

open access: yes, 2012
Muscle strength may play an important role in endurance road cycling events. By increasing lower body strength and power, the anaerobic energy production and maximal levels of muscular force required during races to climb hills, perform repeated surges ...

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

An evaluation of gastrocnemius muscle structure and function in endurance runners and low physical activity individuals

open access: yes, 2013
Includes abstract.Includes bibliographical references.Distance running has become increasingly popular in recreational runners. The gastrocnemius is the main muscle used for propulsion in running, and may be at risk for injury due to its morphology.

Risk Prediction Models for Recurrence After Curative Treatment of Early‐Stage or Locally Advanced Lung Cancer: A Systematic Review

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This systematic review synthesizes prognostic models for survival and recurrence in resected non‐small cell lung cancer. While many models demonstrate moderate to good discrimination, few are externally validated and reporting quality is variable, limiting clinical applicability and highlighting the need for robust, transparent model development ...
