The polarized production of cGMP in additional enteroid monolayers following purified toxin exposure or infection with CFA/I-CS21 ETEC.

open access: yes, 2022
Differentiated jejunal enteroid monolayers (J2) were exposed to purified ST toxin (1nM) or infected with wildtype strain CVD30 or its derivative CFA/I-deficient strains for 6 hrs. Apical and basolateral supernatants were collected for cGMP ELISA.

Human enteroid monolayers as a potential alternative for Ussing chamber and Caco-2 monolayers to study passive permeability and drug efflux [PDF]

open access: yes
After oral administration, the intestine is the first site of drug absorption, making it a key determinant of the bioavailability of a drug, and hence drug efficacy and safety. Existing non-clinical models of the intestinal barrier in vitro often fail to

Protocol for the cryopreservation of Cryptosporidium isolates using enteroids

open access: yesSTAR Protocols
A major bottleneck in the progress of Cryptosporidium research is the lack of accessible cryopreservation of Cryptosporidium oocysts. Here, we present a protocol for the cryopreservation of Cryptosporidium isolates using enteroids. We describe the steps for the establishment of enteroid cultures and cryopreservation of C. parvum-infected HCT-8 cultures.

Production and characterization of avian crypt-villus enteroids and the effect of chemicals [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2019
Abstract Background Three-dimensional models of cell culture such as organoids and mini organs accord better advantage over regular cell culture because of their ability to simulate organ functions hence, used for disease modeling, metabolic research, and the development of therapeutics ...

Natural Products as Potential Resource Library for Control of Major Swine Enteric Viruses

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Major swine enteric viruses (SEVs), including porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV), transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), swine acute diarrhea syndrome coronavirus (SADS‐CoV), and porcine rotavirus (PoRV), cause severe gastrointestinal diseases in pigs, leading to huge economic losses to the swine industry ...

Molecular Basis and Differentiation-Associated Alterations of Anion Secretion in Human Duodenal Enteroid Monolayers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background & Aims: Human enteroids present a novel tool to study human intestinal ion transport physiology and pathophysiology. The present study describes the contributions of Cl- and HCO3 - secretion to total cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP ...

Immune and Immune‐Integrated Organoids as NextGeneration Platforms for Disease Modeling

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 12, December 2025.
This graphical abstract outlines the sources and methods for integrating immune cells into organoids. Immune cells can be derived from peripheral blood, tissues, or differentiated from human‐induced pluripotent stem cells. The immune cells are incorporated into the organoid by using coculture techniques, direct injection, as well as scaffolds and air ...

CFA/I mediates adherence by CFA/I-CS21 ETEC to additional ileal and jejunal human enteroid monolayers.

open access: yes, 2022
Differentiated jejunal and ileal enteroid monolayers 46I (A), 34I (B), and J2 (C) were infected with wildtype ETEC strain CVD30 or the CF-deficient mutant strains for 4hrs.

Generation of Intestinal and Colonic Organoids Derived From Human Pluripotent Stem Cells

open access: yesBiology of the Cell, Volume 117, Issue 12, December 2025.
Human pluripotent stem cells can be guided through a stepwise differentiation process to produce self‐organizing intestinal and colonic organoids. The resulting organoids recapitulate fetal‐stage epithelial and mesenchymal organization, offering a powerful model to explore human gastrointestinal development and its disorders.
