Epidermal Stem Cells

2019
A multilayered epithelium to fulfil its function must be replaced throughout the lifespan. This is possible due to the presence of multipotent, self-renewing epidermal stem cells that give rise to differentiated cell lineages: keratinocytes, hairs, as well as sebocytes.

The Epidermal Merkel Cell Is an Epithelial Cell

Dermatologica, 2009
TROMA 1 a monoclonal antibody against cytokeratin, was found to react with epidermal Merkel cells. This demonstrates the epithelial origin of MC.

Epidermal cell renewal in the horse

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1988
SUMMARY Epidermal cell labeling index and cell renewal time were estimated in 8 adult horses, using autoradiography after [3H]thymidine was given intradermally. The mean labeling index was 1.45 ± 0.47%, and the mean cell renewal time of the viable epidermis was approximately 17 days.

Epidermal homeostasis — a numerical model. Kinetics of epidermal cells

Experientia, 1968

The Epidermal Cell

1976
The objective of the biochemist is commonly defined as the description in chemical terms of all the activities of the cell. If we are to form some estimate of the magnitude of this ambition it is instructive from time to time to survey the range of these activities.

ISOLATION OF EPIDERMAL LANGERHANS CELLS

International Journal of Immunogenetics, 1989
SUMMARYLangerhans cells (LC) play an important role in the skin immune system. They are bone marrow‐derived and function as the only accessory and antigen‐presenting cells in the skin. Several techniques for enriching these cells have been devised, and four, including density gradient centrifugation, use of cell sorter, panning and immunomagnetic ...

Clear Epidermal Cells: an Artifact

Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, 1980
Individual epidermal cells with condensed pyknotic nuclei surrounded by a clear vesicular space and a rim of homogeneous cytoplasm were observed in various unrelated skin conditions. It is suggested that the appearance of these cells is most likely artifactual and due to factors such as occlusion, with resulting moisture in the intertriginous areas, or

Measurements of human epidermal cells

Archiv fr Dermatologische Forschung, 1972
Corresponding to different effects of fixing materials used, the statistical results of comparative measurements of healthy human epidermis were presented individually. Because of the modest amount of samples available, it is not possible to draw absolute conclusions from the results.

Epidermal Langerhans Cells in Cholesteatoma

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1984
The function of the epithelial component of a cholesteatoma has been the subject of intense research. The epithelium does not appear to have proteolytic enzyme activity, yet when it is present, increased amounts of bone resorption occur. Recent evidence suggests that epidermal Langerhans cells within epithelium have an immunologic alerting function ...
