Role of methionine on epigenetic modification of DNA methylation and gene expression in animals

open access: yesAnimal Nutrition, 2017
DNA methylation is one of the main epigenetic phenomena affecting gene expression. It is an important mechanism for the development of embryo, growth and health of animals.

Lung cancer and epigenetic modifications

open access: yesTuberkuloz ve Toraks, 2016
Epigenetic alterations, including DNA methylation, histone modifications, and noncoding RNA expression, have been reported to play a major role in the genesis of lung cancer. DNA methylation, histone modifications, and RNA expression are epigenetic markers in assesment of early detection, prognosis and evaluation of treatment of lung cancer.

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Oxidative Stress, Nrf2, and Epigenetic Modification Contribute to Anticancer Drug Resistance

open access: yesToxicological Research, 2017
Nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), a transcription factor, controls the expression of genes encoding cytoprotective proteins, including antioxidant enzymes that combat oxidative and electrophilic stress to maintain redox homeostasis.

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

The Emerging Role of Ten-Eleven Translocation 1 in Epigenetic Responses to Environmental Exposures. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Mounting evidence from epidemiological studies and animal models has linked exposures to environmental factors to changes in epigenetic markers, especially in DNA methylation.

Synthesizing the role of epigenetics in the response and adaptation of species to climate change in freshwater ecosystems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Freshwater ecosystems are amongst the most threatened ecosystems on Earth. Currently, climate change is one of the most important drivers of freshwater transformation and its effects include changes in the composition, biodiversity and functioning of ...

Epigenetic modification of the oxytocin and glucocorticoid receptor genes is linked to attachment avoidance in young adults

open access: yesAttachment & Human Development, 2018
Attachment in the context of intimate pair bonds is most frequently studied in terms of the universal strategy to draw near, or away, from significant others at moments of personal distress.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Transcriptional memory emerges from cooperative histone modifications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background Transcriptional regulation in cells makes use of diverse mechanisms to ensure that functional states can be maintained and adapted to variable environments; among them are chromatin-related mechanisms.
