Monotone Picard Maps in Relational Metric Spaces

open access: yesMathematics
The 2008 fixed point result on rs-relational metric spaces due to Jachymski is equivalent with the classical 1922 Banach Contraction Principle. This is also valid for the 1961 statement in metric spaces due to Edelstein, or the 2005 fixed point result in

Boolean Algebra Application in Analysis of Flight Accidents [PDF]

open access: yesINCAS Bulletin, 2015
Fault tree analysis is a deductive approach for resolving an undesired event into its causes, identifying the causes of a failure and providing a framework for a qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the top event.

Interpolation and Extrapolation Statements equivalent to the Riemann Hypothesis

open access: yes, 2023
The goal of this paper is twofold; on one hand we wish to present some statements that can be formulated in terms of Interpolation theory which are equivalent to the truth or the falseness of the Riemann Hypothesis, on the other hand we will use a key result of the Jawerth-Milman extrapolation to improve on a well-known criterion by Beurling and Nyman ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

An Equivalent Statement to Nicolas' Criterion

open access: yes, 2015
Nicolas' criterion for the Riemann Hypothesis (RH) is an inequality based on primorials and the Euler totient function. The aim of this paper is to reformulate Nicolas' criterion and prove the equivalent statement. I will show that the reformulation is bounded and montonic using Chebyshev's function and results on prime numbers.

The Kervaire-Laudenbach conjecture and presentations of simple groups

open access: yes, 2004
The statement ``no nonabelian simple group can be obtained from a nonsimple group by adding one generator and one relator" 1) is equivalent to the Kervaire--Laudenbach conjecture; 2) becomes true under the additional assumption that the initial ...

Feasibility of a ctDNA multigenic panel for non‐small‐cell lung cancer early detection and disease surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Plasma‐based detection of actionable mutations is a promising approach in lung cancer management. Analysis of ctDNA with a multigene NGS panel identified TP53, KRAS, and EGFR as the most frequently altered, with TP53 and KRAS in treatment‐naïve patients and TP53 and EGFR in previously treated patients.

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...

Reporting of Noninferiority and Equivalence Randomized Trials [PDF]

open access: yesJAMA, 2006
The CONSORT (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials) Statement, including a checklist and a flow diagram, was developed to help authors improve their reporting of randomized controlled trials. Its primary focus was on individually randomized trials with 2 parallel groups that assess the possible superiority of one treatment compared with another ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.
