Esculetin: A review of its pharmacology and pharmacokinetics
Phytotherapy Research, 2021AbstractEsculetin is a natural dihydroxy coumarin; it is mainly extracted from twig skin and the trunk bark of the Chinese herbal medicineFraxinus rhynchophyllaHance. Emerging evidence suggests that esculetin has a wide range of pharmacological activities.

Induction of apoptosis by esculetin in human leukemia cells
European Journal of Pharmacology, 2001Esculetin, a coumarin compound, has been shown to exhibit antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. In the present study, esculetin was found to inhibit the survival of human promyelocytic leukemia HL-60 cells in a concentration-dependent and time-dependent manner.

The In Vivo Effect of Esculetin Ointment and Esculetin-Mixed Zyderm for Zyderm
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2014Injectable collagen is often used for treatment of wrinkles or scars in cosmetic surgery. However, it is degraded within a short period after subcutaneous injection. The authors aimed to achieve a long-lasting effect of the filler with a new collagenase inhibitor, esculetin (6,7-dihydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one).Nude mice were divided into two study groups ...

Microdetermination of esculetin in Nicotiana tabacum
Analytical Biochemistry, 1973Abstract A glc method has been described for the quantitative analysis of tobacco (and other plant tissue) for esculetin (as free esculetin and the glucosides esculin or cichoriin) which used tritium-foil electron-capture detection of as little as 15 ng esculetin.

Selective inhibition of platelet lipoxygenase by esculetin
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1982The effects of coumarin and its derivatives on rat platelet lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase activities were studied. Esculetin (6,7-dihydroxycoumarin) was found to inhibit the lipoxygenase more strongly than the cyclooxygenase; its concentration for 50% inhibition (IC50) was 0.65 microM for platelet lipoxygenase and 0.45 mM for platelet cyclooxygenase.

Conversion of Caffeic Acid to Esculetin during Paper Chromatography
Nature, 1959ESCULETIN was found in an extract of plant tissue which contained caffeic acid. The esculetin was not a natural product but was formed from caffeic acid during the paper-chromatographic purification procedures. This conversion was confirmed by two-dimensional chromatography of authentic caffeic acid.

ESCULETIN PREVENTS LIVER DAMAGE INDUCED BY PARACETAMOL AND CCL4
Pharmacological Research, 1998Esculetin, a phenolic compound found in Cichorium intybus and Bougainvllra spectabillis was investigated for its possible protective effect against paracetamol and CCl4-induced hepatic damage. Paracetamol produced 100% mortality at the dose of 1 g kg-1 in mice while pre-treatment of animals with esculetin (6 mg kg-1) reduced the death rate to 40%. Oral

Esculetin induces mitochondria-mediated apoptosis in 3T3-L1 adipocytes
Apoptosis, 2006Adipose tissue mass is determined by the volume and the number of adipocytes and is subjected to homeostatic regulation involving cell death mechanisms. We investigated the effects of esculetin, a coumarin compound, on apoptotic signaling in 3T3-L1 adipocytes.
