Competitive molecular docking approach for predicting estrogen receptor subtype α agonists and antagonists

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2014
Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are exogenous compounds that interfere with the endocrine system of vertebrates, often through direct or indirect interactions with nuclear receptor proteins.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Estrogen receptor and temperature independently influence sex determination in the red-eared slider turtle

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology
In reptiles with temperature-dependent sex determination (TSD), including the red-eared slider turtle Trachemys scripta elegans, female sex determination is sensitive to estrogen.

GnRH receptor activation competes at a low level with growth signaling in stably transfected human breast cell lines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Breakthrough Breast CancerBackground: Gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) analogs lower estrogen levels in pre-menopausal breast cancer patients. GnRH receptor (GnRH-R) activation also directly inhibits the growth of certain cells.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Novel developments in the study of estrogen in the pathogenesis and therapeutic intervention of lymphangioleiomyomatosis

open access: yesOrphanet Journal of Rare Diseases
Objective This study aimed to enhance the understanding of the role of estrogen in lymphangioleiomyomatosis(LAM) and to conclude the impact of estrogen-altering events on the condition and recent advances in estrogen-based treatments for LAM. Results LAM

Selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) and selective estrogen receptor degraders (SERDs) in cancer treatment.

open access: yesPharmacology and Therapeutics, 2017
Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women, with estrogen receptor positive (ER+) breast cancer making up approximately 75% of all breast cancers diagnosed.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

The Effect of Phytoestrogens on Cognitive Function and Alzheimer's Disease [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Nutrition Sciences, 2018
Dementia is a neurodegenerative disorder that leads to a significant cognitive loss. It was shown that the rise in life expectancy and the number of elderly people in the community led to an increasing trend in incidence and prevalence of Alzheimer's ...
