Unlocking mitochondrial drug targets: The importance of mitochondrial transport proteins
Abstract A disturbed mitochondrial function contributes to the pathology of many common diseases. These organelles are therefore important therapeutic targets. On the contrary, many adverse effects of drugs can be explained by a mitochondrial off‐target effect, in particular, due to an interaction with carrier proteins in the inner membrane.

Glutathione transferases (GST) are involved in detoxification and immunomodulation, allowing the establishment and development of cestodes in the host. Taenia solium has a 24‐kDa GST sigma class inducible gene that encodes a stable enzyme in a wide range of pHs and temperatures. Its enzymatic activity differs from other GSTs in the parasite, suggesting

Abstract Background The antineoplastic drug busulfan can induce different hepatic lesions including cholestasis and sinusoidal obstruction syndrome. However, hepatic steatosis has never been reported in patients. Objectives This study aimed to determine whether busulfan could induce steatosis in primary human hepatocytes (PHH) and differentiated HepaRG

The potential of mid-infrared photoacoustic spectroscopy for the detection of various doping agents used by athletes [PDF]
The feasibility of laser-photoacoustic measurements for the detection and the analysis of different isolated doping agents in the vapour phase is discussed. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that photoacoustic vapour-phase measurements

A novel method for screening the glutathione transferase inhibitors [PDF]
Background Glutathione transferases (GSTs) belong to the family of Phase II detoxification enzymes. GSTs catalyze the conjugation of glutathione to different endogenous and exogenous electrophilic compounds.

Increased nitric oxide activity compensates for increased oxidative stress to maintain endothelial function in rat aorta in early type 1 diabetes [PDF]
Hyperglycaemia and oxidative stress are known to acutely cause endothelial dysfunction in vitro, but in the initial stages of diabetes, endothelium-dependent relaxation is preserved.

Substrate specificites of cytosolic glutathione-S transferases in five different species of the aquatic macrophyte Myriophyllum [PDF]
We report about the general biotransformation activity based on the activities of glutathione S-transferases (GST\u27s; EC 2.5.1.18) on different model substrates, of five species of the macrophyte genera Myriophyllum (M. hippuroides, M.
