Bonamia exitiosa in European Flat Oyster (Ostrea edulis) on the Croatian Adriatic Coast from 2016 to 2020

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
The annual production of European flat oysters (Ostrea edulis) in Croatia is about 50 to 65 tons, and it has a long tradition. All Croatian oyster farms are subjected to the national surveillance program aiming to detect the presence of Bonamia ostreae ...

Ecological restoration of European flat oysters in the German Bight

open access: yes, 2023
Several marine ecosystems currently face severe degradation, in the form of habitat loss. As a consequence, humans are undertaking initiatives to restore species and habitats to restore and preserve ecosystem services and functions. Although there have been many initiatives to restock commercial marine species for fisheries and aquaculture, the ...

Growth of the European flat oyster in the Mediterranean Sea (Murcia, SE Spain)

open access: yesAquaculture International, 1996
Growth of the natural European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis L.) spat from the Mar Menor (Murcia, Spain) was studied in the Mediterranean Sea over 18 months. The oysters were cultured in two types of containers, stackable plastic Galician trays and plastic mesh pots, deployed at a depth of 15 m hung from a long-line.

Contribution of in Vivo Experimental Challenges to Understanding Flat Oyster Ostrea edulis Resistance to Bonamia ostreae

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2017
Bonamiosis due to the parasite Bonamia ostreae has been associated with massive mortality outbreaks in European flat oyster stocks in Europe. As eradication and treatment are not possible, the control of the disease mainly relies on transfer restriction.

The sperm-specific proteins of the edible oyster (European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis)) are products of proteolytic processing

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression, 2004
Extraction of sperm proteins from the bivalve mollusc Ostrea edulis shows them to contain a normal complement of core histones, together with three sperm-specific proteins, OE1 and OE2, plus the shorter OE3, which shows substantial microheterogeneity.

Sediment suitability of Frisian Front search areas for European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis) restoration

open access: yes, 2022
In the North Sea agreement an area 100 km2 at the Frisian Front will be designated for European flatoyster (Ostrea edulis) restoration. This report presents results from a field survey in two search areas, of 100 km2 each, concerning the suitability for ...

Review of the fauna associated with wild and farmed mussels and oysters in the Mediterranean

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mussels and oysters are important ecosystem engineers which modify the physical and chemical characteristics of the environment and create habitats that support highly diverse associated communities. In the Mediterranean Sea, the native Mediterranean mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis and the European flat oyster Ostrea edulis, together the ...

Amino Acid and Biogenic Amine Profiles in Sausages Reformulated With Processed, Fermented Oyster Mushrooms

open access: yesChemFoodChem, EarlyView.
This research showed that sausage reformulation preserves high essential amino acid and branched‐chain amino acid content, as well as increasing free amino acids (FAA) related to umami flavor and health‐promoting components such as GABA in the products.

Comprehensive Review on Advancements in Food Preservation Technologies for Quality and Sustainability

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Preservatives limit microbial development, oxidation, and enzymatic degradation, resulting in better food quality and extended shelf life. Classified as natural, synthetic, or biological, each preservative has distinctive attributes and modes of action. Growing preference for natural preservatives aligns with clean label trends.
