Response of a Parametrically Excited System to a Nonstationary Excitation [PDF]
The response of a single-degree-of-freedom system to a nonstationary excitation is investigated by using the method of multiple scales as well as analog- and digital-computer simulations. The unexcited system has one focus and two saddle points. The system can be used to model rolling of ships in head or follower seas.

Dramatic cardiomegaly arising from gain-of-function (GoF) mutations in the ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels genes, ABCC9 and KCNJ8, is a characteristic feature of Cantú syndrome (CS).

The effects of membrane potential oscillations on the excitability of rat hypoglossal motoneurons
Oscillations in membrane potential induced by synaptic inputs and intrinsic ion channel activity play a role in regulating neuronal excitability, but the precise mechanisms underlying their contributions remain largely unknown.

The paper describes the design of broadband chirp excitation pulses in NMR. We first develop a three stage model for understanding chirp excitation in NMR. We then show how a chirp $π$ pulse can be used to refocus the phase of the chirp excitation pulse. The resulting magnetization still has some phase dispersion in it. We show how a combination of two

Homogeneous and Narrow Bandwidth of Spike Initiation in Rat L1 Cortical Interneurons
The cortical layer 1 (L1) contains a population of GABAergic interneurons, considered a key component of information integration, processing, and relaying in neocortical networks.

THE EXCITEMENT OF DISCOVERY [PDF]
I had the good luck to start research at the dawn of molecular biology when it was possible to ask fundamental questions about the nature of the nucleic acids and how information is transferred in living systems. The search for answers led me into many different areas, often with the question of how molecular structure leads to biological function ...

The cardiac Nav1.5 mediated sodium current (INa) generates the upstroke of the action potential in atrial and ventricular myocytes. Drugs that modulate this current can therefore be antiarrhythmic or proarrhythmic, which requires preclinical evaluation ...

Neurons regulate their excitability by adjusting their ion channel levels. Degeneracy – achieving equivalent outcomes (excitability) using different solutions (channel combinations) – facilitates this regulation by enabling a disruptive change in one ...
