Kinetics of 15 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) after single oral application as a mixture – A pilot investigation in a male volunteer

open access: yesEnvironment International
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are ubiquitous environmental contaminants with half-lives in humans in the range of years in case of the long-chain compounds, leading to accumulation and measurable levels in plasma.

Reporting back environmental exposure data and free choice learning. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Reporting data back to study participants is increasingly being integrated into exposure and biomonitoring studies. Informal science learning opportunities are valuable in environmental health literacy efforts and report back efforts are filling an ...

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Understanding community insights on waste segregation and environmental health using a photovoice based crowdsourcing approach in India

open access: yesDiscover Social Science and Health
Increasing amount of municipal solid waste is a growing global concern harming the health of the humans and animals and affecting the sustainability of the environment. While citizens are expected to take responsibility for waste sorting and segregation,

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Metabolomic profiling reveals systemic metabolic disruptions induced by combined exposure to particulate matter and ozone

open access: yesCurrent Research in Toxicology
Air pollution exposure, especially particulate matter (PM) and ozone (O3), poses significant health risks, but the systemic metabolic consequences of combined exposures to PM and O3, remain poorly understood.

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.

Risk Assessment for Developmental Toxicity: Airborne Occupational Exposure to Ethanol and Iodine [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Dean Mattison explains hazard identification, hazard characterization and exposure characterization as furnishing a foundation for Risk assessment generally. He then illustrates their application in assessing the fetal Risk posed by two common substances.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Global Burden of Disease of Mercury Used in Artisanal Small-Scale Gold Mining

open access: yesAnnals of Global Health, 2017
Background: Artisanal small-scale gold mining (ASGM) is the world's largest anthropogenic source of mercury emission. Gold miners are highly exposed to metallic mercury and suffer occupational mercury intoxication.
