Neuroprotective effects of hydrogen sulfide on BDNF, IGF-1, and oxidative stress in the hippocampus of high-fat diet rats

open access: yesIBRO Neuroscience Reports
A high-fat diet (HFD) induces oxidative stress and reduces hippocampal neurotrophic factors, contributing to cognitive impairment. Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) is an endogenous gaseous signaling molecule with recognized neuroprotective and antioxidant ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Insulin-Like Growth Factor (IGF)-I and -11 and IGFBinding Proteins-l, -2, and -3 in Children and Adolescents with Diabetes Mellitus: Correlation with Metabolic Control and Height Attainment. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The putative effects of diabetes and metabolic control on circulating levels of insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) and their binding proteins (IGFBPs) remain controversial.

Antagonistic Effect of Corn Protein Hydrolysate on Gastric Injury in Mice Induced by Helicobacter pylori Infection [PDF]

open access: yesShipin Kexue
The protective effects of corn protein hydrolysate (CPN) on gastric injury in mice induced by Helicobacter pylori infection were investigated. Healthy Kunming male mice were adaptively fed for seven days and randomly divided into six groups: normal ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Repairing Effect of Fucoxanthin on Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in Mice [PDF]

open access: yesShipin Kexue
Objective: To explore the repairing effect and underlying mechanism of fucoxanthin on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) in C57BL/6 mice.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Expression of DDX3 is directly modulated by hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha in breast epithelial cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
DEAD box protein, DDX3, is aberrantly expressed in breast cancer cells ranging from weakly invasive to aggressive phenotypes and functions as an important regulator of cancer cell growth and survival.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
