Functional Properties of Complement Factor H-Related Proteins FHR-3 and FHR-4: Binding to the C3d Region of C3b and Differential Regulation by Heparin [PDF]
The human factor H‐related proteins FHR‐3 and FHR‐4 are members of a family of proteins related to the complement factor H. Here, we report that the two proteins bind to the C3d region of complement C3b. The apparent K A values for the interactions of FHR‐3 and FHR‐4 with C3b are 7.5×106 M−1 and 2.9×106 M−1, respectively. Binding studies performed with

Human Factor H-Related Protein 5 (FHR-5): A New Complement-Associated Protein
A novel human plasma protein has been identified as a universal component of complement deposits, when complement is detected immunohistochemically in vivo. The protein is homologous to complement factor H and related proteins and has been designated factor H-related protein 5 (FHR-5).

A novel apoprotein of an apparent molecular mass of 86 kDa in its unreduced form was identified in human triglyceride-rich lipoproteins. This protein was purified and the amino acid sequence of six proteolytic fragments was found to overlap with that of the factor H-related proteins. In parallel we identified the cDNA encoding a new complement factor H-

Abstract Introduction Factor H-related proteins (FHRs) have emerged as novel players in complement-mediated diseases, as they exhibit structural resemblances to factor H but lack the regulatory domains, enabling them to antagonize factor H and increase complement activation through several activities.
