Expression of Fas/Fas-Ligand, Bcl-2 Protein and Apoptosis in Extravillous Trophoblast along Invasion to the Decidua in Human Term Placenta

open access: yesEndocrine Journal, 2003
There are two local subtypes of extravillous trophoblast (EVT): one is the proliferative phenotype of EVT, which primarily consists of proximal cells and the other is the invasive phenotype of EVT, which is composed mainly of distal cells of cell columns. The mechanism of invasion of EVT to the decidua remains obscure.

Fas-associated Death Domain Protein (FADD) and Caspase-8 Mediate Up-regulation of c-Fos by Fas Ligand and Tumor Necrosis Factor-related Apoptosis-inducing Ligand (TRAIL) via a FLICE Inhibitory Protein (FLIP)-regulated Pathway [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2001
Fas, a death domain-containing member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor family and its ligand FasL have been predominantly studied with respect to their capability to induce cell death. However, a few studies indicate a proliferation-inducing signaling activity of these molecules too. We describe here a novel signaling pathway of FasL and the tumor

JNK inhibition sensitises hepatocellular carcinoma cells but not normal hepatocytes to the TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background: cJun terminal kinase (JNK) is constitutively activated in most hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs), yet its exact role in carcinogenesis remains controversial.

The extracellular matrix, p53 and estrogen compete to regulate cell-surface Fas/Apo-1 suicide receptor expression in proliferating embryonic cerebral cortical precursors, and reciprocally, Fas-ligand modifies estrogen control of cell-cycle proteins

open access: yesBMC Neuroscience, 2004
Background Apoptosis is important for normal cerebral cortical development. We previously showed that the Fas suicide receptor was expressed within the developing cerebral cortex, and that in vitro Fas activation resulted in caspase-dependent death ...

Death receptor 5 expression is inversely correlated with prostate cancer progression. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Prostate carcinoma (PCa) is one of the most common cancers in men. Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) has been widely used to predict the outcome of PCa and screening with PSA has resulted in a decline in mortality. However, PSA is not an optimal prognostic

IL-18-Binding Protein Protects Against Lipopolysaccharide- Induced Lethality and Prevents the Development of Fas/Fas Ligand-Mediated Models of Liver Disease in Mice [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Immunology, 2001
AbstractIL-18-binding protein (IL-18BP) is a natural IL-18 inhibitor. Human IL-18BP isoform a was produced as fusion construct with human IgG1 Fc and assessed for binding and neutralizing IL-18. IL-18BP-Fc binds human, mouse, and rat IL-18 with high affinity (KD 0.3–5 nM) in a BIAcore-based assay.

Inhibition of Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 Receptor Signaling Enhanced Silibinin-Induced Activation of Death Receptor and Mitochondrial Apoptotic Pathways in Human Breast Cancer MCF-7 Cells

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2008
Silibinin, which had been used as a hepatoprotectant, was shown to have anticancer activity. In this study we investigated the mechanisms of silibinin-induced apoptosis in human breast cancer MCF-7 cells.

Caspase 8 activation independent of Fas (CD95/APO-1) signaling may mediate killing of B-chronic lymphocytic leukemia cells by cytotoxic drugs or gamma radiation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Ligation of the cell-surface Fas molecule by its ligand (Fas-L) or agonistic anti-Fas monoclonal antibodies results in the cleavage and activation of the cysteine protease procaspase 8 followed by the activation of procaspase 3 and by apoptosis.

Exosomes promote pre-metastatic niche formation in ovarian cancer. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Ovarian cancer is one of the most common gynecological malignancies. Upon initial diagnosis, the majority of patients present with widespread metastatic growth within the peritoneal cavity. This metastatic growth occurs in stages, with the formation of a

The hepatic sympathetic nerve plays a critical role in preventing Fas induced liver injury in mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Background: Although previous studies have shown that the hepatic sympathetic nerve controls various physiological functions in the liver, the role of this nerve in liver injury has yet to be clarified.Aims: The purpose of this study was to elucidate the
