Diffuse 0.5-1 keV X-Rays and Nuclear Gamma-Rays from Fast Particles in the Local Hot Bubble

open access: yes, 1998
We show that interactions of fast particles with the boundary shell of the local hot bubble could make an important contribution to the 0.5-1 keV diffuse X-ray background observed with ROSAT.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Perturbative model for the saturation of energetic-particle-driven modes limited by self-generated zonal modes

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
We present a simplified energy-conserving approach to incorporate wave–wave nonlinear effects within the framework commonly used to describe wave–particle nonlinearities.

Calcium‐sensing receptor induces the apoptosis of chondrocytes in cooperation with phosphate transporter

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Excess Ca2+ ions activate the Calcium‐Sensing Receptor (CaSR), which subsequently drives the uptake of excess inorganic phosphate (Pi) via the Pi transporter (Pit−1) in chondrocytes. This mechanism causes a toxic increase in intracellular Pi concentration, ultimately leading to chondrocyte apoptosis and pathological mineralization. Excess extracellular

Hands‐on protocol for preparing water‐soluble fractions from agri‐food samples for NMR‐based metabolomics analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol outlines a workflow for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)‐based metabolomics in the agri‐food sector. Using two case studies—strawberry leaves (solid matrix) and wine (liquid matrix)—it details the procedures for sample preparation, data acquisition, and processing.

Diagnostic weight functions in constants-of-motion phase-space

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The fast-ion phase-space distribution function in axisymmetric tokamak plasmas is completely described by the three constants of motion: energy, magnetic moment and toroidal canonical angular momentum. In this work, the observable regions of constants-of-

Optimum electrode configurations for fast ion separation in microfabricated surface ion traps

open access: yes, 2011
For many quantum information implementations with trapped ions, effective shuttling operations are important. Here we discuss the efficient separation and recombination of ions in surface ion trap geometries.

Dapagliflozin prevents methylglyoxal‐induced retinal cell death in ARPE‐19 cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Diabetic macular oedema is a diabetes complication of the eye, which may lead to permanent blindness. ARPE‐19 are human retinal cells used to study retinal diseases and potential therapeutics. Methylglyoxal is a compound increased in uncontrolled diabetes due to elevated blood glucose.

Erythropoietin modulates hepatic inflammation, glucose homeostasis, and soluble epoxide hydrolase and epoxides in high‐fat diet‐induced obese mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Erythropoietin administration suppresses hepatic soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) expression, leading to increased CYP‐derived epoxides. This is associated with a shift in hepatic macrophage polarization characterized by reduced M1 markers and increased M2 markers, along with reduced hepatic inflammation, suppressed hepatic lipogenesis, and attenuated ...

Orbit tomography in constants-of-motion phase-space

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Tomographic reconstructions of a 3D fast-ion constants-of-motion phase-space distribution function are computed by inverting synthetic signals based on projected velocities of the fast ions along the diagnostic lines of sight.
