Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Conserved function of the long noncoding RNA Blnc1 in brown adipocyte differentiation

open access: yesMolecular Metabolism, 2017
Objective: Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are emerging as important regulators of diverse biological processes. Recent work has demonstrated that the inducible lncRNA Blnc1 stimulates thermogenic gene expression during brown and beige adipocyte ...

Ectopic Fat Deposition and Diabetes Mellitus

open access: yesJournal of the American College of Cardiology, 2016
Dr. Zhu and colleagues also note the different situations in which the vasovagal reflex can occur, and suggest matching work and life environments between the placebo and fludrocortisone groups. Although an interesting and insightful comment, this might not be practical.

One size does not fit all: An in vitro evaluation of the effects of bezafibrate and medroxyprogesterone acetate on human SH‐SY5Y and U‐87 MG cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Drugs previously repurposed to target blood cancers reduced neuroblastoma and glioblastoma cell growth and viability. However, their levels of anticancer activity were different and their clinical application may be problematic due to side effects at effective doses.

Peripheral Neuropathy and Hindlimb Paralysis in a Mouse Model of Adipocyte-Specific Knockout of Lkb1

open access: yesEBioMedicine, 2017
Brown adipose tissues (BAT) burn lipids to generate heat through uncoupled respiration, thus representing a powerful target to counteract lipid accumulation and obesity.

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Integrating parental genomes to reduce reference bias and identify intramuscular fat genes in Qinchuan Black pigs

open access: yesJournal of Animal Science and Biotechnology
Background Traditional genomic analysis relies on a single reference genome, which struggles to effectively characterize the genetic diversity among populations. This is due to the substantial genetic differences between the genome of the studied species

Identification of TRAPPC9 and BAIAP2 Gene Polymorphisms and Their Association With Fat Deposition-Related Traits in Hu Sheep

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2022
Fat deposition is an important economic trait that is closely related to feed efficiency and carcass performance in livestock. In this study, the fat deposition-related traits of 1,293 Hu sheep were measured and descriptive statistical analysis was ...

Patterns of carcass fat deposition in heifers, steers and bulls

open access: yes, 1979
Seventy-five young, full-fed, Shorthorn-sired cattle (36 heifers, 24 steers, 15 bulls) were slaughtered over a wide liveweight range (150-550 kg) to evaluate the influence of sex on the patterns of fat ...
