Stability of unsaturated methyl esters of fatty acids on surfaces

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1972
The stability of unsaturated methyl esters is greater when they are adsorbed on silica gel than when a glass surface is used. Storage of small samples adsorbed on silica gel may be a convenient addition to conventional methods of protecting labile fats ...

Time‐restricted feeding prior to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection reduces tissue CD4+ T cells with limited impact on bacterial clearance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) in mice increased liver fatty acid oxidation and decreased fatty acid biosynthesis. These alterations persisted when TRF was discontinued and the host was infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pre‐exposure to TRF did not alter tissue (lung and spleen) mycobacterial burden but significantly reduced CD3+ T cells in lungs

Fats and major fatty acids present in edible insects utilised as food and livestock feed

open access: yesVeterinary and Animal Science, 2023
Common food sources including meat, fish and vegetables are the main source of fats and fatty acids required by human body. Edible insects such as worms, locusts, termites, crickets and flies have also been identified as a potential source of essential ...

Specialty oils and fats in margarines and low-fat spreads [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The replacement of saturated and trans fats with unsaturated fatty acids (FA) in margarine and low-fat spreads is of current interest for food scientists and industries.

Human Gut Bacteria and Lipidic Nanoparticles: Particle Composition Predicts Structural Transformation and Bacterial Biocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lipidic nanoparticles (LNPs) were incubated with 21 gut bacteria frequently associated with the human microbiome. SAXS revealed that ∼75% of tested species induced structural transformations in monoolein LNPs, whereas phytantriol and phospholipid formulations remained unaffected.

Macadamia nuts – good fats, bad fats, and biofortification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Macadamia nut kernels are high in oil, of which the majority is mono-unsaturated and considered to be beneficial for cardiovascular disease (CVD). In particular, macadamias are unusually high in the omega-7 fatty acid, palmitoleic acid, which has been ...

Nanocellulose Alleviates Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy via Gut Microbiota‐Mediated Bile Acid Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanocellulose, derived from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) through sulfuric acid hydrolysis or mechanical grinding to produce CNC or CNF, was tested in a rat ICP model. Particularly, CNF improved gut microbiota composition, reduced secondary bile acid metabolism, and restored bile acid homeostasis through modulation of the gut–liver axis.

Synthesis of Cyclopropene‐Modified Fatty Acids Allows Single‐Cell Quantification of Uptake by Immune Cells

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Cyclopropene fatty acids have been made that allow the study of fatty acid uptake in complex mixtures of immune cells with single cell resolution and combined with metabolic and proteomic analysis so that for the first time nutrient uptake can be correlated to the phenotype of single immune cell.

SMAD4 Palmitoylation Drives a Metabolic‐Transcriptional Circuit to Promote Tumorigenesis and Confers Radiosensitivity in Pancreatic Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies palmitoylation as a novel regulatory modification of SMAD4, mediated by ZDHHC22/APT2. It activates fatty acid synthesis, creating a self‐reinforcing SMAD4–FASN–palmitate feedback loop that drives pancreatic cancer growth and enhances radiotherapy sensitivity.
