Pre-pregnancy overweight or obesity moderates the association between prenatal maternal depressive symptoms and infant cord blood omega-3 levels

open access: yesBMC Pregnancy and Childbirth
Background Empirical evidence has demonstrated associations between pre-pregnancy obesity and perinatal maternal depressive symptoms. Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid derived from dietary sources that is critical for fetal brain development.

Composition of essential oil and fatty acids of Centaurea pichleri ssp. pichleri

open access: yesInternational Journal of Secondary Metabolite, 2017
In this study, the essential oil of Centaurea pichleri ssp. pichleri was obtained by hydrodistillation using a Clevenger-type apparatus. GC and GC/MS analyzes of the essential oil from Centaurea pichleri ssp.

Desaturase Genes Expression and Fatty Acid Composition of Pleurotus ostreatus in Response to Zinc and Iron [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cell and Molecular Research, 2018
The influence of ZnSO4, FeSO4, ZnO, and Fe2O3 at 80 µM on the expression of desaturase genes and fatty acid composition of Pleurotus ostreatus was investigated. Fatty acid was extracted by lipid extraction and methylation procedure using acidic methanol:

Dynamic role of the transmembrane glycoprotein CD36 (SR-B2) in cellular fatty acid uptake and utilization

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2018
The widely expressed transmembrane glycoprotein, cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36), a scavenger receptor class B protein (SR-B2), serves many functions in lipid metabolism and signaling.

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Disorders of mitochondrial long-chain fatty acid oxidation and the carnitine shuttle

open access: yesReviews in Endocrine & Metabolic Disorders, 2018
Mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation is an essential pathway for energy production, especially during prolonged fasting and sub-maximal exercise. Long-chain fatty acids are the most abundant fatty acids in the human diet and in body stores, and more than ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Comparison between Berkshire and crossbreed on meat quality, and investigation of the relationship with fatty acid composition and meat quality

open access: yesJournal of Animal Science and Technology, 2023
This study aimed to compare meat quality traits between Berkshire and crossbreed (Landrace × Yorkshire × Duroc), and to investigate the relationship between meat quality traits and fatty acid composition.

HIF drives lipid deposition and cancer in ccRCC via repression of fatty acid metabolism

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is histologically defined by its lipid and glycogen-rich cytoplasmic deposits. Alterations in the VHL tumor suppressor stabilizing the hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs) are the most prevalent molecular features of ...
