Regulation And Function Of Fatty Acid Desaturases
The FASEB Journal, 2016Stearoyl‐CoA desaturase is a central lipogenic enzyme catalyzing the synthesis of monounsaturated fatty acids mainly oleate (C18:1) and palmitoleate (C16:1) which are the major monounsaturated fatty acids of membrane phospholipids, triglycerides, wax esters and cholesterol esters. Several SCD gene isoforms (SCD1‐4) exist in the mouse. While SCD1, 2 and

Fatty Acid Desaturase Mutants of Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Journal of Bacteriology, 1969Genetic and biochemical analyses were conducted on fatty acid mutants of yeast deficient for Δ 9 -desaturase activity in the production of palmitoleate and oleate. Two genetic loci were observed and two others are inferred; three of these were represented by respiratory-deficient (petite) strains.

Increased levels of oleic acid may enhance the nutritional and functional value of corn. Corn oil is primarily composed of palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic and linolenic fatty acids. Delta-12 desaturase in plants converts oleic acid (18:1) to linoleic acid (18:2) by inserting a double bond at the delta-12 position.

Evolution of the membrane-bound fatty acid desaturases
Biochemical Systematics and Ecology, 2003Abstract The deduced amino acid sequences of the membrane-bound desaturase genes have been compared in order to infer their phylogenetic relationships. All the deduced proteins share three highly conserved histidine rich motifs suggesting a common origin. The phylogenetic analysis revealed three distinct clusters within the membrane desaturases.

Fatty Acid Desaturase: The Yin or Yang of Disease Pathology
Molecular Diagnosis & TherapyFatty acid desaturases are key enzymes in lipid metabolism, crucial for converting saturated fatty acids into monounsaturated fatty acids. This review examines the roles of stearoyl-CoA desaturase, fatty acid desaturase 1, fatty acid desaturase 2 and fatty acid desaturase 3 in health and disease, highlighting their impact on cellular functions such as ...
