Photo‐Switchable Molecular Module Programming PET Biodegradation in Aquatic Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We address the plastic durability paradox by integrating an itaconic acid–derived pyrrolidone module into polymer backbones. Sunlight in water triggers Norrish Type I ring‐opening and hydrophilization, enabling rapid biodegradation into nontoxic minerals.

Production of alkanes from CO2 by engineered bacteria

open access: yesBiotechnology for Biofuels, 2018
Background Microbial biosynthesis of alkanes is considered a promising method for the sustainable production of drop-in fuels and chemicals. Carbon dioxide would be an ideal carbon source for these production systems, but efficient production of long ...

Self‐Healing Hydrogel‐Enabled Modular Assembly of Bilayered Skin Construct for Hair Follicle Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐healing assembly of two cell‐laden hydrogel layers creates a biomimetic skin construct that restores both dermal and epidermal functions, resulting in accelerated wound healing and enhanced hair follicle regeneration in a full‐thickness skin wound model. ABSTRACT Alopecia remains a pervasive clinical challenge, largely owing to the limited ability

Advances in 3D Bioprinting for Breast Cancer Modeling: Tumor Microenvironment, Metastasis, and Drug Screening

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Three‐dimensional bioprinting transforms breast cancer modeling from simple constructs into spatially organized, multicellular, perfused, and patient‐derived platforms. This review shows how bioinks, cellular composition, architecture, and flow govern tumor behavior and drug response, while revealing why complexity alone is insufficient without ...

On the effect of small molecules of plant origin on digestive processes in the rumen of cattle in situ

open access: yesSiberian Journal of Life Sciences and Agriculture
Background. The abandonment of antibiotics in animal husbandry leads to the search for new more effective alternatives, one of which is phytochemicals – small molecules with pronounced bioactive effects. Purpose.

A Turkish family with Sjögren-Larsson syndrome caused by a novel ALDH3A2 mutation

open access: yesAnnals of Indian Academy of Neurology, 2013
Sjögren-Larsson syndrome (SLS) is an inherited neurocutaneous disorder caused by mutations in the aldehyde dehydrogenase family 3 member A2 (ALDH3A2) gene that encodes fatty aldehyde dehydrogenase. Affected patients display ichthyosis, mental retardation,

Underground Signals: The Ecological Power of Root Volatiles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Root volatiles mediate rhizosphere chemical communication, shaping interactions among plants, microbes, herbivores, and natural enemies. Their production, transport, and perception underpin ecological adaptation, multitrophic interactions, and plant resilience, offering opportunities for sustainable crop protection, resilient agroecosystems, and ...

Isolation and analysis of free fatty aldehydes from rat, dog, and bovine heart muscle

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1967
Procedures are described for the isolation of free fatty aldehydes from total lipid extracts of rat, dog, and bovine heart muscle. These aldehydes did not arise from hydrolysis of the naturally occurring alkenyl ethers in either the extraction or ...

Functional analysis of leishmania cyclopropane fatty acid synthetase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The single gene encoding cyclopropane fatty acid synthetase (CFAS) is present in Leishmania infantum, L. mexicana and L. braziliensis but absent from L. major, a causative agent of cutaneous leishmaniasis. In L.
