Fear Conditioning to Subliminal Fear Relevant and Non Fear Relevant Stimuli

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
A growing body of evidence suggests that conscious visual awareness is not a prerequisite for human fear learning. For instance, humans can learn to be fearful of subliminal fear relevant images--images depicting stimuli thought to have been fear relevant in our evolutionary context, such as snakes, spiders, and angry human faces.

Establishing an Apheresis Medicine Program in a Resource‐Constrained Setting: A 5‐Year Experience From Lagos, Nigeria

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Establishing a comprehensive apheresis medicine program in a resource‐constrained setting presents significant structural, financial, and logistical challenges. Despite the growing clinical importance of apheresis services globally, published experience from sub‐Saharan Africa remains sparse.

Early β adrenoceptor dependent time window for fear memory persistence in APPswe/PS1dE9 mice

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
In this study we demonstrate that 2 month old APPswe/PS1dE9 mice, a transgenic model of Alzheimer’s disease, exhibited intact short-term memory in Pavlovian hippocampal—dependent contextual fear learning task. However, their long-term memory was impaired.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Modulating anxiety with extrasynaptic inhibition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Traumatic experiences and stress can lead to complex behavioral adaptations, including increased levels of anxiety and fear generalization. The neuronal mechanisms underlying such maladaptive behavioral changes are, however, poorly understood.

Auditory fear memory retrieval requires BLA-LS and LS-VMH circuitries via GABAergic and dopaminergic neurons

open access: yesEMBO Reports
Fear and associated learning and memory are critical for developing defensive behavior. Excessive fear and anxiety are important components of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Short-Term Total Sleep-Deprivation Impairs Contextual Fear Memory, and Contextual Fear-Conditioning Reduces REM Sleep in Moderately Anxious Swiss Mice

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2017
The conditioning tasks have been widely used to model fear and anxiety and to study their association with sleep. Many reports suggest that sleep plays a vital role in the consolidation of fear memory.

Evaluating an internet-delivered fear conditioning and extinction protocol using response times and affective ratings

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Pavlovian fear conditioning is widely used to study mechanisms of fear learning, but high-throughput studies are hampered by the labor-intensive nature of examining participants in the lab.

Adolescent Alcohol Exposure Results in Sex-specific Alterations in Conditioned Fear Learning and Memory in Adulthood

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2022
The present study used auditory fear conditioning to assess the impact of repeated binge-like episodes of alcohol exposure during adolescence on conditioned fear in adulthood.

Don't fear 'fear conditioning'

open access: yesNeuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews, 2017
The so-called 'replicability crisis' has sparked methodological discussions in many areas of science in general, and in psychology in particular. This has led to recent endeavours to promote the transparency, rigour, and ultimately, replicability of research.
