Adaptive Control of a Fed-batch Baker's Yeast Fermentation
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1985Abstract Two adaptive controllers for the regulation of the respiratory quotient of a fed-batch baker's yeast fermentation are presented. The first one is a feed forward adaptive controller based on a second order model from which the parameters are determined with auxiliary measurements. The second one is a self-tuning controller.

Robust Identification of a Fed-Batch Fermentation Process
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1994Abstract The identification of a biotechnical fed-batch fermentation process is considered which is extremely difficult to model due to its highly non-linear and time-varying properties. The main part of the non-linearities can be eliminated by fixed compensations.

Optimal control of a fed-batch fermentation process
Transactions of the Institute of Measurement and Control, 1997Optimisation of fed-batch fermentation processes usually employs the calculus of variations to determine optimal feed-rate profiles that will maximise a given objective function. This results in a two-point boundary-value problem and because of the nonlinear nature of the pro cesses, the optimal solution usually falls out as an open-loop control ...

Production of pullulan by a fed-batch fermentation
Biotechnology Letters, 1987In pullulan production from sucrose byAureobasidium pullulans, a sugar concentration higher than 5% (w/v) inhibited cell growth and the production of exopolysaccharide. By a fed-batch fermentation, the inhibitory effects of the high sugar concentration were overcome and 58.0 g/1 of exopolysaccharide were obtained from 10% sucrose.

State Estimation of a Fed-Batch Baker's Yeast Fermentation
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1983Abstract This article gives an indirect estimation method for on-line determination of the biomass, the specific growth rate, the substrate utilization rate and the ethanol concentration of a fed-batch baker’s yeast fermentation. The method only uses measurements from established sensors such as gaseous oxygen and carbon dioxide analyzers, and an air

Optimal Control of Fed-Batch Fermentation Processes
1998In this chapter the design ofa substrate feeding rate controller for a class of biotechnological processes in stirred tank bioreactors characterized by a decoupling between biomass growth and product formation is under study. As a typical example, we consider the most common case of monotonic specific growth rate and non-monotonic specific production ...

Environmental Control of a Fed-batch Fermentation Process
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1987Abstract It is common practice to regulate the respiratory quotient of a fed-batch fermentation process in order to optimize the biomass production. Certain process variables, such as air flowrate, pH and temperature, which determine the environment in which the cell culture is to grow are held constant, or within bounds, by separate control loops ...
