Nonthermal Food Processing Technologies: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesFuture Postharvest and Food, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract illustrates the shift from traditional thermal food preservation methods to advanced nonthermal technologies. Traditional methods, represented by heating, often compromise the nutritional and sensory quality of foods. In contrast, nonthermal approaches such as high‐pressure processing (HPP), pulsed electric field (PEF ...

Uruguayan feijoa (Feijoa sellowiana) cultivars

open access: yesAgrociencia Uruguay
The feijoa (Feijoa sellowiana) is a fruit tree undergoing domestication, and in Uruguay, it has been the subject of breeding efforts for just over two decades. During this time, four cultivars were registered at Instituto Nacional de Semillas (INASE): INIA-Fagro Isleña, INIA-Fagro Cerrillana, INIA-Fagro Artillera, and INIA-Fagro Armonía, progressively ...

Fruit respiration: putting alternative pathways into perspective

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 1, Page 54-73, April 2026.
Summary Over the past century, research has significantly advanced our understanding of fruit respiration, from (eco)physiological processes to molecular mechanisms. This review focuses on the functional relevance and regulatory roles of mitochondrial alternative respiratory pathways (ARPs) during fruit growth and ripening.

Comparative Study of Refractance Window and Hot Air Drying of Apple Pomace: Kinetics, Modeling, and Utilization in Pancakes

open access: yesJournal of Food Process Engineering, Volume 49, Issue 3, March 2026.
Refractance window drying efficiently valorized apple pomace by significantly reducing drying time and energy consumption while better preserving bioactive compounds compared to hot air drying. The resulting powder showed high functional potential and was successfully used as a sugar and flour substitute in pancakes.

Understanding Values Within Biosecurity: A Myrtle Rust Case Study

open access: yesNew Zealand Geographer, Volume 82, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper examines the values held by experts involved in responding to myrtle rust, a major plant disease in Aotearoa New Zealand. Although values are central to biosecurity decision‐making, they are often left implicit, risking weaker decisions and reduced engagement from participants.

Uncovering the Key Factors Influencing Phytochemical and Phytopharmacological Properties During Medicinal Plant Processing

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 1, February 2026.
From farm to pharma, this review details the engineering of quality in medicinal plants through a science‐driven approach: it first elucidates how genetic and environmental factors inscribe the plant's phytochemical and phytopharmacological profile before harvest, and then dissects the postharvest techniques and technologies—chemical and thermal pre ...

Never have been and here again…

open access: yesКлиническая и экспериментальная тиреоидология, 2019
The discussion in this column is not about legislation but about issues that are closer to the readership. What products mainly provide for the need of the human body in iodine in Russia and other (near and far) countries of the world?
