A Comparative study on Glucose Production from Sorghum Bicolor and Manihot Esculenta Species in Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The two-step enzymatic hydrolysis of Manihot esculenta and Sorghum bicolor using ƒ¿-amylase and amyloglucosidase were studied. The starch substrate were gelatinized at 80oC and then liquefied with the amylase enzyme at a temperature of 90oC.

Virtual Reality–Based Cue Exposure and Aversion Therapy for Alcohol Dependence: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesAddiction Biology, Volume 31, Issue 5, May 2026.
Virtual reality–based cue exposure therapy and aversion therapy were evaluated in male inpatients with alcohol dependence. The combined VR‐CET+AT intervention reduced craving and alcohol‐related attentional bias beyond standard care, whereas relapse rates did not differ significantly at 4 or 12 weeks.

Safety of acute exposure to the food additive glycerol (E 422) from beverages

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract The European Commission requested EFSA to assess the acute exposure to glycerol (E 422) from slush ice drinks and de‐alcoholised wine. The acute exposure assessment was conducted on a single‑consumption‑event basis considering the reported use levels and analytical data of glycerol in slush ice drinks and the proposed maximum level of 50,000 ...

Biological Degradation of Phthalates: From Bioremediation to Plastic Waste Valorization

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 7, 14 April 2026.
Phthalic acid isomers play a key role in the plastics industry, but pose significant environmental and health concerns. This review explores the microbial biodegradation of phthalates and their esters, focusing on bacterial enzymes, catabolic pathways, and cellular uptake mechanisms of phthalates.
