FETS-FFA Ring Study

2021
ISIS is the spallation neutron source at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in the UK, providing a proton beam with a power of 0.2~MW. Detailed studies are under way for a major upgrade, including the use of Fixed Field alternating gradient Accelerator (FFA).

Nonlinear Dynamics of Scaling FFAs

2023
Fixed Field Alternating Gradient Accelerators (FFAs) that follow the conventional scaling law have – by definition – high order multipole components in their magnetic fields. It is the presence of these nonlinearities that in many cases determines several important properties of the machine, including amplitude-dependent tune shift and dynamic aperture.

Acute enhancement of insulin secretion by FFA in humans is lost with prolonged FFA elevation

American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, 1999
The in vivo effect of elevated free fatty acids (FFA) on β-cell function in humans remains extremely controversial. We examined, in healthy young men, the acute (90 min) and chronic (48 h) effects of an approximately twofold elevation of plasma FFA vs. control on glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS).

Cold stress increases lipolysis, FFA Ra and TG/FFA cycling in humans.

Aviation, space, and environmental medicine, 1999
To characterize the important changes in the selection and mobilization of metabolic fuel during cold stress, six males rested for 3 h at 29 degrees C and at 5 degrees C dressed only in shorts while 2H5 glycerol, 1-13C palmitate and 6,6 2H2 glucose were continuously infused for 3 h in each condition to determine their rate of turnover (Ra).Metabolic ...

Anxiety and plasma free fatty acids (FFA)

Life Sciences, 1969
Abstract Anxiety-fear and not hostility, as measured by an objective method using the content analysis of five-minutes of speech, can mobilize plasman free fatty acids (FFA) from fat stores in fasting subjects. The average rise in plasma FFA 20 minutes after beginning to speak is significantly correlated (positively) with the average anxiety scores ...

THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF E.M. TIFFANY AND THE FFA CREED TO LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT WITHIN THE FFA

Journal of Agricultural Education, 2008
The FFA Creed by E.M. Tiffany has influenced the lives of countless FFA members. However, the creed has received little attention in terms of its origin. A creed is a foundational component for many organizations. It serves to establish collective vision and goals with the intent of providing purpose and direction to the individual as well as the ...

Role of insulin and free fatty acid (FFA) availability on regional FFA kinetics in the human forearm.

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1994
To determine the role of insulin and free fatty acid (FFA) concentration in the regulation of FFA metabolism, forearm FFA fluxes were quantified in 16 healthy volunteers by combining the forearm perfusion technique with the infusion of [3H]palmitate. Three groups of studies were performed. In study 1 (n = 6), a systemic insulin infusion (1.2 mU/kg.min)

Races, faces, and the FFA

Trends in Neurosciences, 2001
Building upon the well-studied social phenomenon that individuals recognize and remember faces of their own race better than faces of other races, Stanford University scientists have now used fMRI to identify the neural systems involved. In the study published in the August issue of Nat.
