Targeting fibrin in neurodegeneration [PDF]

open access: yesNature Immunology, 2018
Deposition of fibrin in the brain and central nervous system occurs after injury or disease. This process unmasks a conserved cryptic epitope of fibrin that activates microglia; blocking this interaction can limit inflammation and neurotoxicity.

Mechanical and degradation properties of advanced platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF), concentrated growth factors (CGF), and platelet-poor plasma-derived fibrin (PPTF)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Implant Dentistry, 2017
Fibrin clot membranes prepared from advanced platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF) or concentrated growth factors (CGF), despite their relatively rapid biodegradability, have been used as bioactive barrier membranes for alveolar bone tissue regeneration.

Lytic and mechanical stability of clots composed of fibrin and blood vessel wall components. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background Proteases expressed in atherosclerotic plaque lesions generate collagen fragments, release glycosaminoglycans (chondroitin sulfate [CS] and dermatan sulfate [DS]) and expose extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins (e.g.

A Novel Sprayable Fibrinogen/Glycosaminoglycans/Collagen‐Based Bioink for Skin Wound Healing Applied by a Handheld Dual‐Head Airbrush

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐head airbrush‐based spraying device, combined with a fibrinogen bioink enriched with glycosaminoglycans and collagen, enables the delivery of biomaterials and cells to promote wound healing. This system demonstrates effective skin regeneration in vitro and in vivo, with comparable results to autografts.

Conditioned Media from Mechanically Stimulated Macrophages Upregulate Osteogenic Genes in Human Mesenchymal Stromal Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Bone fracture healing is a complex, timely orchestrated scenario involving multiple cell types and a plethora of cytokines and regulatory factors. To gain further insight, an in vitro model to a) study macrophage polarization under mechanical load in a fibrin hydrogel and b) subsequently assess the effect of conditioned media derived from macrophages ...

Impaired endogenous fibrinolysis at high shear using a point-of-care test in STEMI is associated with alterations in clot architecture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
© The Author(s) 2019Impaired endogenous fibrinolysis is an adverse prognostic biomarker in acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Abnormally dense in vitro fibrin thrombi have been demonstrated in ACS patients and related to hypofibrinolysis using cumbersome ...
