Fibroblast activation and senescence in oral cancer [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Oral Pathology & Medicine, 2016
There is now compelling evidence that the tumour stroma plays an important role in the pathogenesis of cancers of epithelial origin. The pre‐eminent cell type of the stroma is carcinoma‐associated fibroblasts. These cells demonstrate remarkable heterogeneity with activation and senescence being common stress responses.

Overexpression of STX11 alleviates pulmonary fibrosis by inhibiting fibroblast activation via the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway

open access: yesSignal Transduction and Targeted Therapy
Fibroblast activation plays an important role in the occurrence and development of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), which is a progressive, incurable, and fibrotic lung disease.

The mechanobiology of fibroblast activation in disease

open access: yesAPL Bioengineering
Fibroblasts play crucial roles in wound healing, cancer, and fibrosis. Many aspects of these roles are driven by the process known as fibroblast activation.

Ets-1 Targeted by MicroRNA-221 Regulates Angiotensin II-Induced Renal Fibroblast Activation and Fibrosis

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2014
Background: Fibroblast activation is one of the most important mechanisms for Angiotensin II (Ang II) in promoting renal fibrosis. Transcription factor Ets-1 is recognized to play a key role in kidney diseases.

LINC01013 Is a Determinant of Fibroblast Activation and Encodes a Novel Fibroblast-Activating Micropeptide [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Translational Research, 2022
AbstractMyocardial fibrosis confers an almost threefold mortality risk in heart disease. There are no prognostic therapies and novel therapeutic targets are needed. Many thousands of unannotated small open reading frames (smORFs) have been identified across the genome with potential to produce micropeptides (< 100 amino acids).

Activation of Fibroblasts in Skin Cancer

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 2022
Fibroblasts have emerged as a dominant component of the tumor microenvironment, but despite the surging interest in the activation of fibroblasts and their role in cancer, they remain an elusive and complex cell type. In this perspective, we discuss the phenotypic plasticity of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in melanoma and nonmelanoma skin ...

Fibroblast heterogeneity in non-small cell lung cancer and optical imaging targeting fibroblast activation protein [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are one of the predominant cell types of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) tumour stroma. This thesis will investigate fibroblast heterogeneity in NSCLC; defining their phenotype by expression of CAF markers ...

Metformin attenuates fibroblast activation during pulmonary fibrosis by targeting S100A4 via AMPK-STAT3 axis

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2023
Fibroblasts activation is a crucial process for development of fibrosis during idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis pathogenesis, and transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 plays a key regulatory role in fibroblast activation.

Fibroblast activation in vascular inflammation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 2011
Vascular inflammation is implicated in both local and systemic inflammatory conditions. Endothelial activation and leukocyte extravasation are key events in vascular inflammation. Lately, the role of the stromal microenvironment as a source of proinflammatory stimuli has become increasingly appreciated.
