Ultrafast Laser Welding of Silicon

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, 2023
While ultrafast laser welding is an appealing technique for bonding transparent workpieces, it is not applicable for joining silicon samples due to nonlinear propagation effects which dramatically diminish the possible energy deposition at the interface.

Inhibitory effect of lactobacilli supernatants on biofilm and filamentation of Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis, and Candida parapsilosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
IntroductionProbiotic Lactobacillus strains had been investigated for the potential to protect against infection caused by the major fungal pathogen of human, Candida albicans. Besides antifungal activity, lactobacilli demonstrated a promising inhibitory

Filamentation without intensity clamping [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present measurements of the supercontinuum emission (SCE) from ultrashort Ti:Saph laser pulse filamentation in air in a tightly focused geometry. The spectral broadening of SCE indicates that peak intensities exceed the clamping value of a few 1013 W ...

Candida albicans white and opaque cells undergo distinct programs of filamentous growth.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2013
The ability to switch between yeast and filamentous forms is central to Candida albicans biology. The yeast-hyphal transition is implicated in adherence, tissue invasion, biofilm formation, phagocyte escape, and pathogenesis.

Filamentation of terawatt laser pulses along hundred-meter atmospheric paths

open access: yes, 2020
Results of the experimental study of filamentation of terawatt femtosecond pulses of a Ti:Sapphire laser along an atmospheric path 106 m long using different spatial focusing and pulse power are presented. The control of filamentation region position and

Spin-Glass Model Governs Laser Multiple Filamentation

open access: yes, 2015
We show that multiple filamentation patterns in high-power laser beams, can be described by means of two statistical physics concepts, namely self-similarity of the patterns over two nested scales, and nearest-neighbor interactions of classical rotators.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Filamentation of a Relativistic Proton Bunch in Plasma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
We show in experiments that a long, underdense, relativistic proton bunch propagating in plasma undergoes the oblique instability, which we observe as filamentation.
