Relativistic Coulomb fission

Physical Review C, 1991
Nuclear fission reactions induced by the electromagnetic field of relativistic nuclei are studied for energies relevant to present and future relativistic heavy-ion accelerators. Cross sections are calculated for {sup 238}U and {sup 239}Pu fission induced by {sup 12}C, {sup 28}Si, {sup 197}Au, and {sup 238}U projectiles.

Nuclear fission reactors

Reviews of Modern Physics, 1999
The story of fission is a story of drama and emotion, and it is a story that demonstrates possibly better than any other the overwhelming importance of modern physics to the events of this past century. Its discovery, or more properly, its identification, was delayed for a surprisingly long time after the phenomenon had in fact been induced in several ...

Fission

1991
Abstract On 10 December 1938 Fermi received a Nobel Prize in physics ‘for his demonstration of the existence of new radioactive elements produced by neutron irradiation, and for his related discovery of nuclear reactions brought about by slow neutrons’.
