Lifetime measurements on fission fragments in the A similar to 100 region [PDF]
5th International Workshop on Nuclear Fission and Fission Product Spectroscopy (FISSION) -- MAY 28-31, 2013 -- Caen, FRANCELifetimes of first 4(+) and 6(+) states have been measured in neutron-rich isotopes of Zr, Mo, Ru and Pd using the recoil distance ...

The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

The β Spectrum Following Fission from ²⁵²Cf [PDF]
The β spectrum from the fission products of 252Cf has been measured using a flat-field magnetic spectrometer. The active entrance aperture to the magnetic field region consisted of an annular plastic scintillator to veto slit scattering and a thin wire ...

The physical basis of the fission wave reactor [PDF]
The main idea of slow nuclear fission wave reactor is discussed and short review of the existing works is also presented. The aim of this paper is to clarify the physics of processes, which define the stationary wave of nuclear burning, and to develop ...

Molecular Machinery and Pathophysiology of Mitochondrial Dynamics
Mitochondria are double-membraned organelles that exhibit fluidity. They are the main site of cellular aerobic respiration, providing energy for cell proliferation, migration, and survival; hence, they are called “powerhouses.” Mitochondria play an ...

The recruitment of acetylated and unacetylated tropomyosin to distinct actin polymers permits the discrete regulation of specific myosins in fission yeast. [PDF]
Tropomyosin (Tm) is a conserved dimeric coiled-coil protein, which forms polymers that curl around actin filaments in order to regulate actomyosin function.

Nuclear astrophysicists at war
The question of energy production in stars stimulated an entire generation of young physicists in the 1930s who came to work in this field exploring the fundamentals of quantum and nuclear physics. Their experience and methodologies were essential to the

Mitochondrial Membranes and Mitochondrial Genome: Interactions and Clinical Syndromes
Mitochondria are surrounded by two membranes; the outer mitochondrial membrane and the inner mitochondrial membrane. They are unique organelles since they have their own DNA, the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), which is replicated continuously.

A human 3D bone niche integrating osteoblasts and osteoclasts enables co‐culture with prostate cancer cell lines and patient‐derived organoids. The engineered niche (i) models aspects of reciprocal phenotypic regulation between osteoblasts and cancer cells, (ii) captures osteoclast‐enhanced osteomimicry in tumor cells, and (iii) establishes a ...
