Presence of L701 M mutation in the FKS1 gene of echinocandin-susceptible Candida krusei isolates.
Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 2018Resistance of Candida krusei isolates to echinocandins, the recommended drugs to treat candidemia, has been associated with mutations in hot spot (HS) regions of the FKS1 gene or L701 M mutation in a region between HS1 and HS3 of FKS1.

Background: Vulvovaginal candidiasis is estimated to range between 35-60% among pregnant women worldwide. The emergency of anti-fungal resistance in Candida species against azoles and caspofungin is a rising concern because there is a limited range of ...

Candida parapsilosis complex has recently received special attention due to naturally occurring FKS1 polymorphism associated with high minimal inhibitory concentrations for echinocandin and the increase of clonal outbreaks of strains resistant to commonly used antifungals such as fluconazole. Despite the previous fact, little is known about the genetic

Mutational and topological analysis of Fks1
Echinocandins represent a new antifungal group with potent activity against most Candida and Aspergillus species. These lipopeptides inhibit synthesis of [beta]-1,3-glucan, a major cell wall polysaccharide. Rare acquired resistance is associated with mutations in two "hotspot" regions of Fks1 or Fks2, the probable [beta]-1,3-glucan syntheses. Intrinsic

Candida auris is an emerging, potentially multidrug‐resistant pathogen that exhibits clade‐specific resistance to fluconazole and also develops resistance to echinocandins and amphotericin B easily. This study analysed 49 C auris isolates for alterations

Drug resistance in Candida species has been considerably increased in the last decades. Given the opposition to antifungal agents, toxicity and interactions of the antimicrobial drugs, identifying new antifungal agents seems essential.

[Overexpression of FKS1 to improve yeast autolysis-stress].
Sheng wu gong cheng xue bao = Chinese journal of biotechnology, 2016With the development of high gravity brewing, yeast cells are exposed to multiple brewing-associated stresses, such as increased osmotic pressure, enhanced alcohol concentration and nutritional imbalance. These will speed up yeast autolysis, which seriously influence beer flavor and quality. To increase yeast anti-autolytic ability, FKS1 overexpression

FKS1 encodes a β-1,3-glucan synthase, which is a key player in cell wall assembly in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Here we analyzed the global transcriptomic changes in the FKS1 mutant to establish a correlation between the changes in the cell wall of the ...

A novel plant gene CFL1 was cloned from cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) fibers by expressed sequence tag (EST) database searching and 5'-RACE (rapid amplification of cDNA ends). This gene shows sequence homology with FKS1 which has been identified as the putative catalytic subunit of the yeast beta-1,3-glucan synthase.

We describe a case of bloodstream infection caused by a Candida krusei strain that developed echinocandin resistance during caspofungin therapy. Three mutations were found in the HS1 region of the fks1 gene, two of them have never been reported either in C. krusei nor in C. albicans.
